Download: Dro Carey’s new EP ‘Tussin Underwater’

Nine-track "mini album" self-released by Carey

While a lot of giveaway tracks tend to be castoff material that wasn’t good enough to get signed, Australian producer Dro Carey’s mini-album that he released today via his tumblr is excellent. Of course, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the 19-year-old Carey (real name Eugene Hector), who put out the fantastic Journey with the Heavy on RAMP just this past December. Click here to download the free EP, entitled Tussin Underwater.

Carey has hit the ground running this January, despite having had to cancel some dates of his first tour as a result of a recurring struggle with depression. In addition to the free EP, he also contributed URB’s first podcast of the year, which went up only five days ago. You can …

BURNIN’ UP: Gerry Read Exclusive Mix (MP3)

Darkness and Detroit ambiguity in a shadowy mix.

There’s not much to say, but a lot to hear in regards to this edition of BURNIN’ UP. Mystery shrouds the person we’ve picked to give us an exclusive mix; we don’t even have a real picture of his face. Gerry Read, simply put (with limited information), is a 18-year old producer/multi-instrumentalist who creates chop-shop house and techno relics with familiar Midwestern flair. The kicker is that the kid is from the UK. With a fresh release on RAMP Recordings sub-label Fourth Wave, as well as remix on Ben Westbeech’s “Something For The Weekend”, I’d say Gerry is doing quite well for himself in his early artistic career. Blessed we are, for having him giving us this fantastic mix. Check out the tracklist and download link after the jump.

URB Presents: Dubbel Dutch (Exclusive Mix) (MP3)

Austin isn't only good for the BBQ, there's bass too.

Every day there’s a new musical niche to appreciate and absorb; from fixing up snares to sound harder than usual to making the tropics sound drunken, producers are finding new ways to make tunes sound fresher and fresher by the minute. Enter Marc Glasser, better known as the Austin-based bassmaker Dubbel Dutch, who has found ways to invigorate the worlds of funky, hardcore, house and tropical bass all into his creations and selections. Releasing two seriously underrated EPs (Trollsta & Throwback) on the expansive Palms Out Sounds label, he’s definitely established himself as a producer that’s only getting better with each tune he makes. With that said, we’ve passed the URB mix baton to him in hope that he would make listeners dance to the wildest, craziest shit out there in terms of bass. Dubbel Dutch did not disappoint. Tracklist and download link after the jump.

Best Of ‘09: Top 10 Electronic Tracks (URB Contributor Mitch Strashnov) (Video)

An introspective and mind-numbing selection of the best electronic tracks of 2009.

Anyone who comes to URB should know, we cover an extensive amount of music from every genre and subgenre. Things aren’t always easily to compile in lists, especially putting together “top ten” lists. Now try doing that with the generalization of a genre called “electronic music.” Some people still don’t know what the difference between techno and house is, and of course we’re here to provide the difference. But, we’re also here to show our appreciation to the tracks that have made us move, groove, bop, boom, and, most importantly, enjoy every second from the first beat to the last. It wasn’t easy, but it sure as hell was a journey. Welcome to my top ten electronic tracks of the year. Take a seat and crank the speakers to eleven: it’s a doozy of a read.
