No nonsense from thecocknbullkid (mp3)

With some aggressive attitude and banging club pop sounds, Urb Next 100-aire thecocknbullkid is the latest Brit to jump the pond and bring her not-so-candy-coated tunes to the States. Her debut Querelle EP is out today and to celebrate she’s doing the mixtape/remix thing.

Known offstage as Anita Blay, thecocknbullkid brings a sound with dark edges to the pop beats. Mixing sex and death, love and pain and plenty of dry British wit, this lady is ready to stake her place in the crowded musical landscape. Her four track EP is filled with dance sounds topped by biting lyrics. Production comes from the likes of Radioclit among others, and for her forthcoming debut LP, she’s working Gonzales, whose previous credits include production for Feist, Peaches and Jamie Lidell.

Review: Pitchfork Music Festival

Pitchfork is not perfect. In fact, the music festival located in the gritty Union Park of Chicago was chocked full of mistakes- just about everybody was behind schedule, there was a sound problem at almost every performance, and the food vendors kept running out of french fries (well the last one is a personal issue…what can I say, I love fries.). Grizzly Bear’s performance was full of equipment glitches as a fault of the sound guy, who looked like he woke up that day and decided to be a sound guy (never thought I’d think those guys were intimidating, but after seeing how pissed off they were, I’ve changed my mind); Doom- yet again- sent an impersonator to perform in his place, and Matt & Kim’s keyboard became unexpectedly unplugged midway …

Dancing in the Rain with MIA

London dance producers Radioclit and singer Esau Mwamwaya are joining forces for a full-length collaboration that is set to feature Santogold, Vampire Weekend, Ruby Suns, and various others.

The first released track from this project features M.I.A hypnotically singing about being cleansed on “Rain Dance” as she mentions baptism, water, and becoming clean. If this track is any indication of what the rest of this project will sound like, fans can expect to find the personality of London dance music blended with African music. This will be an album that aims to make you dance.

Mature Macho Machine (feat. TTC, Ears, Skepta, Tinchy Stryder)

Released by Counterfeet

Definitely on some Diplo shit with this one, British producer Radioclit brings some 8-bit style synth work into the frey with a veritable horde of MCs to back it up. It's a 'ghetto pop' variety show here, which reeks of mashup-itis, but ends up being kinda catchy and fun when consumed with high levels of alcohol. Just don't expect the headz to get into this.
