This year marks the 10 Year Anniversary of NY-based Wonderwheel Recordings. In celebration, founder Nickodemus, compiled a free album time-capsule that features various releases over their 10 year span and showcases their wide variety of musical styles, artists and worldwide influences.
The Wonderwheel Time Capsule features music from Nickodemus, Quantic, La Troba Kung-Fu, Zeb, The Pimps of Joytime, etc and is a free album download via Bandcamp. Nickodemus also provides a track by track breakdown that is hosted on the Wonderwheel website which offers great background information, personal insight, and stories about each track.
I don’t think we need to say much about any musical collaboration that revolves around both of these artists, but here we are. Releasing today on a super limited edition tear drop shaped vinyl, the duo got together in what can only be described as a throw back to classic 70′s soul ballads. The double A sides also features Alfredito Linares on piano on I Cry, with the flip side marrying Quantic’s trademark tropical flavour with Russell’s bluesy, gospel delivery on Here Again.’
Again, anytime these to get together on a track, magic happens. Jump on the vinyl before it sells out, and for those less analog inclined, peep the digital version.
Music from your favorite DJ you’ve never heard of. This guy is a friend of mine from a little ol’ city called Buffalo, NY. He sent over this gem and it definitely merited some exposure on URB. Just for some credibility, back in 2006, DJ Cutler won Scion’s national Free Up Your Mix contest for the best remix.
Here’s what he had to say about the current mix:
“Here’s a new mix of tunes from the past couple of years that I’m really digging… As per usual all vinyl (save for track one which isn’t yet on wax). Support these artists and buy their records now before they’re out of print! Feel free to share far and wide and many thanks for listening.
DJ Nu-Mark, member of lauded group Jurassic 5, chops it up with Quantic aka Will Holland, a trail blazing artist whose live band incarnations (see Quantic Soul Orchestra) and collaborations (wow inducing Alice Russell) have blown minds internationally. Currently, Quantic is on the road with his Ondatropica project with Colombian musician, Mario Galeano. DJ NU-MARK is releasing the Broken Sunlight 10” series over the course of 2012. The series will be consolidated into a full-length album later this year with a docu-style accompanying DVD. The pair also collaborate on an upcoming single for Broken Sunlight series, “Tropicalifornia.”
These two musical forces of nature share their thoughts on evolving with new musical formats, traveling with toys, gear they can’t live without and the power of listening. …MORE
