I usually trust Arthur to deliver the goods regardless of where the mag calls home: the Bay, NYC…Philly?
Anyway, Jay Babcock tossed this sucker up a few days back. The Phantom Family Halo isn’t too shabby: its psych is heavy. But the ensemble shoulda spent more time on the music and less time stringing words together for its name.
If the swirling mess of the Wooden Shjips wasn’t enough for the psych forager in you, relax. Comprised of Ripley Johnson, the Shjips guitarist, and Sanae Yamada, Moon Duo is set to release its first long player on Woodsist. Here goes a cut off of that banger right now.
And no, I have no idea why dude isn’t any longer going by Ripley. The music sounds good, so what’s the difference?
When the guys in RealEstate have time to eat, sleep or drive to their next show is beyond most of our understanding. Here’s a slew of new stuff from two separate EPs either out now or soon to be so. Cop ‘em and pretend it’s still summer.
Does anyone else find the name of this song amusing given the name of the band?
Regardless of that, “Basement” comes off as something of a track for stoned cowboys. That endless slide guitar is the culprit, but there doesn’t ever seem to be enough of it. Real Estate is all slight rock tropes, this effort being no different, but in that is the group’s tossed off charm.
