George Bush Doesn’t Like Protest Rap

They said protest music was over. They also said help was on the way. URB rounds up eight of the best songs to respond to one of America's worst moments.

Juvenile, “Get Ya Hustle On”  Motivation is a weird bird. Comic book supervillians are constantly involving themselves in schemes for a better world, but it’s their quest for power and ambivalence towards disastrous byproducts that makes Superman come calling. “Get Ya Hustle On” is motivational libertarianism at its most succinct, screaming at those who lost everything in Katrina to go out and get it back, legality be damned. While that catchy “We take the Pyrex/and then we rock with it/roll with it” hook certainly pissed off FEMA’s cooking-supply-donating ass and the introductory “No time to be crying for momma now” stings a little bit, lines like “niggaz killin’ niggaz and them bitches be lovin’ it/Fuck FOX News” are what really stick (it to the man).

Lil’ Wayne, “Georgia . . . Bush” Scathing. Incendiary. Vengeful.  One of the last Katrina-inspired songs …
