Jon Convex Exclusive Mix (Podcast)

Jon Convex
Exclusive Mix

Today’s entry in our podcast series comes from one of the most lauded producers at the moment, Jon Convex. Initially one of the two that make up the unquestionably fantastic outfit Instra:mental (Boddika being his counterpart), the duo splintered off to do their own thing within the past couple of years and have been making informative and transcendental dance music under their own solo aliases. With Convex, he’s been busy on labels such as previously affiliated imprints Naked Lunch and Nonplus, as well as Martyn’s burgeoning label 3024. In addition to his work on 3024 (includingLied To Be Loved feat. dBridge), he’ll be busy with his own imprint, simply titled Convex Industries. With his unique, shifted take on dancefloor grooves and rhythmic notions, we’re more than happy to present Jon Convex’s URB podcast to you all. Check out the mix and tracklist after the jump.

Lazer Sword Exclusive Mix (Podcast)

Lazer Sword

Exclusive Mix

Things have come a long way for the duo of Lando Kal and Low Limit, known collectively as Lazer Sword. Since initially making their stamp on the electronic music world with tracks like “Gucci Sweatshirt” and “Batman”, the duo shifted from their focus on abstract beats as the years went on. It wasn’t until the duo worked together on their EP for Glaswegian imprint Numbers when they caught a foothold in Europe. Already armed with a killer live show, the duo was in a good place. Things changed, as Lando Kal moved to Berlin and took his own productions to a more techno and rave-oriented directions, and Low Limit continued to hone his craft back in California. The goal of a group effort never strayed far, as they were signed to Modeselektor’s Monkeytown label and within the past few weeks, have garned some fantastic praise for their album, Memory. Truly an auditory spectrum of what they love and labor for, Memory is certaintly a fantastic piece of inventive and igniting electronic glory. With their forthcoming U.S. tour upon us, Lazer Sword have kindly given URB a mix of their current favorites at the moment. With James Pants, Shed and Model 500 on the tracklist, it seems like being all over the place is the only place to be. Check out the tracklist and mix after the jump.

Barker Exclusive Mix (Podcast)

Barker
Exclusive Mix

Today’s podcast comes from Leisure System resident and busy-as-hell badman Barker. Making tracks since he was 13, Barker has been around electronics for years and truly adheres to the methods and madness of a wide spectrum of frequencies. Whether that be playing for the massive event institution/burgeoning label Leisure System, or putting out tracks on Ostgut Ton with fellow producer nd_baumecker (under their Barker & Baumecker moniker), his mind and vibes are in the right place. With his debut solo release on Leisure System earlier this week, we invited Barker to contribute his tastes and sonic sensibilities to URB’s podcast series; and he didn’t disappoint. Check out the tracklist and mix after the jump.

Mike D & Peanut Butter Wolf Mix Stones Throw Podcast (MP3)

The MC still has serious cred, hanging out at Stones Throw HQ in Los Angeles long enough record this 45 minute podcast with Peanut Buter Wolf. The pair keep it mostly old school, talking over tracks from Public Enemy, Kraftwerk and Strafe, but also toss in a new tune by Santigold, proving that their ears are still fresh.

Mike D is in LA currating the Transmission LA: AV Club,  at the MOCA Geffen Contemporary, described as a “17-day multi-disciplinary festival, featuring the work of 16 contemporary artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers, chefs and live music/DJ events.” The Stones Throw crew will be appearing at the fest on April 21st with DJs Dam-Funk, J Rocc, Jonti & Peanut Butter Wolf.

Ital Exclusive Mix (Podcast)

Ital

Exclusive Mix

What a year it’s been for Daniel Martin-McCormick, better know as the mind-warping producer, Ital. His sounds, informed by the sensibilites of disco, gospel and house, are not necessarily tied to one sort of “genre”. In fact, Ital’s audible identity is one that covers a world of dance music that might not even be occupied wholly by electronic music fans entirely. His releases on 100% Silk and Planet Mu expand from twisted dance epics to genre-defying amalgams, crossing borders without any regard to who’s listening. What’s most important with Ital’s music is the vibe; it’s reliant on mood, melody and energy, something that no matter what kind of music fan you are, you can appreciate in its entirety. To commemorate the release of Hive Mind of Planet Mu, Ital has graced URB with an exclusive mix of tunes he’s bought on-tour. In addition to that, he’s given us a lengthy interview to accompany it. Check out the mix, tracklist and chat after the jump.
