New York 21st Century mainstays Plant Music have just released Plant Music: Love Me, the imprint’s first compilation since the highly influential 2004 Sound of Young New York. And while Plant’s owners Dominique Keegan and Stretch Armstrong are still holding it down in the big apple, this collection of tunes featuring DJ Mehdi, Dimitri From Paris, DJ Wool, Clubfeet and more showcases what a global affair Plant Music has become.

Grammy Award winning jazz saxophonist Gary Bartz began making waves on the jazz scene during its prime in New York City and never slowed down. Mr. Bartz was formally trained at Julliard; however, it’s the time alongside jazz greats like Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and McCoy Tyner that has placed him as a legend in the game. R&B icon, Bilal, serves as featured vocalist for the Gary Bartz Project, and for this special night only, soul sensation and 2006 RBMA Participant, Aloe Blacc, will join them on stage.

I was looking at my Hello Kitty calendar this morning and thinking, “Holy Cowabunga, fetus! It’s almost summer!” Normally I’m all about this change but I feel like I myself have not prepared myself for the upcoming plethora of festivals, drunk people taking naps on curbs and what not. Alas, like in “No Sleep” the summer can be full of no sleep moments for many of us. From sweating all night in our apartments that have no A/C or weeks of drinking and parties while dodging many STD’s. Who cares! Sleep is for the dead so I’m going to keep playing “No Sleep” until the cops come over to my house and detain me for public lewdness. “No Sleep” is out now …
