Interview :: Lazerbeak’s “Legend Recognize Legend”

Before our conversation, I listened to the new album, watched the video for DoomTree’s “Drumsticks” a million times. I’ll have to wait a month or two till he comes to play West Hollywood to shout it at him at a show. At at 28, he’s already logged a considerable amount of time in the studio, and four hundred plus some odd tracks which is definitely a professional average. Spin has even called him a child prodigy, various mainstream media corporate outlets bowed at his feet as well in previous write-ups. He was down for the exchange, and I was unbelievably ill. It was decided via text message would be mutually beneficial way to proceed.

Pimp C “What Up” ft. Drake & Bun B (MP3)

Our first thought on this first posthumous release by legendary Texas rapper Pimp C is “what took so long?” Our next though was to wonder if Pimp C and Drake would have ever collaborated in real life. The song also features a beat by Drake collaborator Boi-1da, which leaves you wondering how cynical this whole package is. But then Bun B comes on, and we gotta assume he’s keeping things relatively legit, even if dueting with the deceased is always a tricky proposition.

Stream Bun B ‘Trill OG’ Album (MP3)

Bun B is streaming his entire third album, Trill OG, over at Spinner. The album features J. Prince, T-Pain, Jeezy, Slim Thug and two songs with Drake. If you’re like us, you’ll be tempted to jump straight to “Right Now” featuring posthumous verses by Pimp C and 2Pac, but try to restrain yourself and let the album play out from the beginning.

Pimp C 3 the ATL

The UGK rapper has manned up just in time for the Aug. 7 release of Underground Kingz, apologizing for his ridiculously stupid claim to Ozone magazine that Hotlanta isn't part of the South because “Atlanta is [on] East Coast time.” This after working with Lil Jon and OutKast? Good move, Pimp C.

In a rambling interview with Greg Street/V 103, the Texas-born Pimp C says, “I want to apologize, and it's sincerely from my heart, for the statement that I made in Ozone magazine about ATL and Atlanta not being the South. That was a lie. It was wrong. And I was trippin'.”

No word yet on how Bun B made him say sorry.
