Jane’s Addiction – Irresistible Force @delunafest @janesaddiction (Video & MP3)

Besides headlining this weekend’s DeLuna Festival in Pensacola, Florida,  the Jane’s Addiction crew is preparing to launch their latest effort, The Great Escape Artist in the following week.  The lead single, ‘Irresistible Force’, a collaboration with Dave Sitek is indicative of what happens when the musical DNA of a grown Jane’s Addiction and the production mind behind TV on the Radio and Maximum Balloon are allowed to intertwine.  Musically plush, the moody orchestral base are married and dance with the vocal progressions provided by Jane’s front man, Perry Farrell; this is marriage driven home further after viewing the accompanying video after the break.  If this first track is any indication of the musicianship contained within their upcoming LP, …

Jane Addiction ft. Dave Sitek :: “End to the Lies” (MP3)

Why is URB posting the first song to come online from Jane’s Addiction’s next album? What are we, Spin circa 1990? Well, the new tune features TV on the Radio / Maximum Balloon man Dave Sitek on bass as well as production duties. And the result? Jane’s still isn’t the same without the Eric Avery’s insanely catch bass parts (who here didn’t learn the riff to “Mountain Song” when they were in High School), and Perry Farrell can’t hoot and hollar the way he used to. But Sitek does add some cool studio trickery, espeically in the intro, which kinda makes you imagine what could happen if Mad Professor got ahold of the master tapes from Ritual de lo Habitual. But it’s still fundamentally by the numbers alt-rock, which is to be expected I guess. …MORE

Dave Sitek Recording With Jane’s Addiction

File this under “did not see it coming.” Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio/Maximum Balloon) has joined the creative team working on Jane’s Addiction’s next album, due out this spring. Sitek will be contributing as a songwriter and bass player, in effect taking the place of Duff McKagan, who spent the first half of 2010 as a member of Jane’s. …MORE

Perry Farrell Talks Dance, DJing, and Gaga

Chicago’s Grant Park is idyllic – expanses of open field with sunbathers, families partaking in a weekend picnic, the occasional dog chasing an airborne Frisbee. The entire scene belies what was there a mere three weeks ago – Lollapalooza. Its fifth year stationed in Chicago, 2010’s Lollapalooza received as much scrutiny as it did praise, featuring artists like pop queen Lady Gaga alongside Australian nu-grunge group Violent Soho and dubstep mastermind Rusko. Fact is, Lollapalooza’s been changing for a while, and according to founder Perry Farrell, it’s all completely intentional.

URB spoke with Farrell in 2009 about the shift and his increasing interest in electronic music, and we were lucky enough to speak with him again this year. Touching on his future projects and revisiting topics like the modern face of Lollapalooza, Farrell tells us what collaborations are on …

Lollapalooza Gets BIGGER

In a clear move to compete with Coachella in the biggest d**k festival competition, Lollapalooza has announced that they will be expanding the festival’s footprint and capacity in 2010.

Chicago Tribune:

The festival’s Grant Park site will expand across Columbus Drive, growing to 115 acres from 80 acres. That will bump capacity by 20,000 a day, to 95,000 from last year’s peak of 75,000. The festival has sold out all 225,000 tickets each of the last two years, but now will be able to sell an additional 60,000 tickets for the festival Aug 6-8.

That’s a whole lotta Gaga groupies.
