The LAST @a3c article: 18 top acts that smashed and The Most Honorable Mentions..EVER (Video & MP3)

A3C was a weekend filled with reunions, representing, and rapping. Crews rapping acts like Jon Connor with their “ya knooooow!” chants and acts like the LEP Bogus Boys from Chicago with their crazy showcase at Fadia Kader’s Perfect Attendance Stage.

If you weren’t there to rock the mic, you may have been in attendance just checking out some dope music. Moving through the crowd handling biz like SMKA or just chilling like Kyle Lucas of Vonnegutt. Artists flew from all over the country to make noise and shake hands. Acts like Prime Element did the same as MC Pig Pen and Pat Maine last year by driving from Colorado to make it happen for themselves in the sake of hip hop. Out of 200 plus performances, …

Better late than Never -1am highlight @a3c is @therealperceep @Perceep (Video)

Many dope performance will come about tonight from Moke and Tone to EL Da Sensai to Freeway and Homeboy Sandman, but the pure grind of all grinds is Percee P. Seeing him work coast to coast and knowing he has been in cyphers with Eminem and sold CDs on the street till he landed a deal with Stones Throw is pure reason why I believe his 30 minute set will be a great pleasure to watch. Not only is it a pleasure, but a testament to observance of culture via A3C and respect to the older artists that have paved the way for street hustlers to rise. Just imagine how many albums would be sold if Creature, Percee P, Sonny Bonoho, Kosha Dillz and Sav Killz would sell if they made a collabo album? They …

E.S.Q. & Chikaramanga – The Succession (Review)

ESQ & Chikaramanga

The Succession

Released by TRES Records

What do you get when a Japanese beatsmith and an emcee from Chicago meet in Los Angeles through the celestial power of hip-hop music? You get a versatile and aurally delicious hip-hop record much like The Succession, a hard-hitting, timely album from TRES Records integrants E.S.Q. & Chikaramanga. The flavors sprinkled throughout this debut showcase the talents of E.S.Q. as an artist of the spoken word as well as TRES co-founder Chikaramanga’s skills with the technologies of the MPC (especially the MPC60 and the S3000). Their musical chemistry is ...

Autechre Mix Tape

Sonically unwrapping an Autechre album is a delicate, overwhelming and sometimes unnerving process — so why should an Ae mixtape be any different?

In anticipation of their March 2010 album, Oversteps, the duo of Rob Brown and Sean Booth have released a DJ mix for Fact Magazine. “No tracklist either, so spotters, please do you worst.”

Alright, I did.

Covered in manipulated, over-and-under-saturated, tempo-nudging production, MC’s such as Sensational, Guilty Simpson, Ultramagnetic MC’s, Q-Tip and Percee P meet undulating electro, early ’90s breaks, a reworking of Meat Beat Manifesto’s “Radio Babylon” , throbbing squelch ‘n’ bass and a gamut of plug-in tweaks; that is, subjecting the majority of the tracks to the same unraveling processes that make Ae’s oeuvre so distinct.

Note: may contain traces of new Autechre works (pay attention after the extended cut and paste Black Metal segment).

Hurry, …

DJ AM memorial @ Nike Theater feat. Dj Premier & Alchemist & many more! (Video)

I had the pleasure of seeing Alchemist DJ @ DJ AM’s tribute concert @ the Nike Theater last week, and needless to say I was blown away by his Dj set, headliner Dj Premier, and not to mention Dj Homicide, & Ben Baller who I’ve never even seen DJ! So much talent was there that night, it was unbelievable. It was for a great cause; the Belvedere was plentiful and I got to enjoy burning indoors with staff that wish to remain anonymous.  Although,  I did see and will show love to Kev Brown, WC, Krondon, Oh No, and MED, just to name a handful of the many artists that were in attendance. I got it in… and everyone only had good things to say about AM, NIKE, Los Angeles in general.
