YoursTru.ly Presents: Karriem Riggins’ J Dilla The Greatest (Video)

Today, February 7th, is James Dewitt Yancey’s Birthday. In remembrance, one of Dilla’s close friends and collaborators, Karriem Riggins, sat down at Iron Works Studios in Eagle Rock to touch on his friend’s legacy, and bang out a tune in his honor. PB Wolf and J Rocc also add their two cents in the beginning of the video.

Peanut Butter Wolf Gets His G-Funk On With Unreleased ’93 Track (MP3)

Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf circa 1991, a time before G-funk.

G-funk is 20 years old, according to the timekeepers who mark Dr. Dre’s The Chronic as the starting point for the West Coast sound. One person who doesn’t seem to be doing any celebrating is Dre himself. There’s not even a sweet extended three-disc reissue on the horizon. But plenty of other folks are pleased with the milestone, including Peanut Butter Wolf, who spoke with Spin.com about the G-funk era, and dug out a  ”total Dre Chronic-era ripoff” from the archives, which he produced in 1993 for Oakland rapper J-Wanz. “Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton (This Is Stones Throw Records)” Documentary w/ Trailer – Kickstarter Campaign (Video)

Stones Throw is proud to announce the production of an independent documentary “Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton (This Is Stones Throw Records)” by filmmaker, Jeff Broadway of Gatling Pictures. Drawing on live concert footage, never-before-seen archival material and in-depth interviews “Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton” will follow label founder and DJ/Producer, Peanut Butter Wolf and explore the various left-of-center artists, history, culture and global following.

There is a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production of the documentary with some limited edition goodies as thank you gifts in return for one’s support. The goal is $35,000 which will cover production trips, shoots and edits of the film. The duration of the campaign is 45 days and will conclude at the end of November.

Mike D & Peanut Butter Wolf Mix Stones Throw Podcast (MP3)

Beastie Boy Mike D might have been inducted in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame this week, but that doesn’t mean the hip-hop legend is just chilling in his mansion. The MC still has serious cred, hanging out at Stones Throw HQ in Los Angeles long enough record this 45 minute podcast with Peanut Buter Wolf. The pair keep it mostly old school, talking over tracks from Public Enemy, Kraftwerk and Strafe, but also toss in a new tune by Santigold, proving that their ears are still fresh.

Mike D is in LA currating the Transmission LA: AV Club,  at the MOCA Geffen Contemporary, described as a “17-day multi-disciplinary festival, featuring the work of 16 contemporary artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers, chefs and live music/DJ events.” The Stones Throw crew will be appearing at the fest on April 21st with DJs Dam-Funk, J Rocc, Jonti & Peanut Butter Wolf.
