The weeklong Northside Festival kicks off its fifth year tomorrow in Brooklyn with music, film and panel discussions spread throughout the borough. 2013′s incarnation of the festival features over 350 bands, 50 films and 70 speakers at venues such as McCarren Park, Brooklyn Bowl, Europa and Nitehawk Cinema. Hip hop, indie rock and everything in between will be on display with acts such as WHY?, Phosphorescent, The Walkmen, Ivan & Alyosha, Peanut Butter Wolf and Black Flag scheduled to perform. Today, February 7th, is James Dewitt Yancey’s Birthday. In remembrance, one of Dilla’s close friends and collaborators, Karriem Riggins, sat down at Iron Works Studios in Eagle Rock to touch on his friend’s legacy, and bang out a tune in his honor. PB Wolf and J Rocc also add their two cents in the beginning of the video.
