LCD Soundsystem/Hot Chip Project Plan Album & Tour

New Build, the collaboration between LCD Soundsystem drummer Pat Mahoney and Hot Chip’s Al Doyle and Felix Martin have announced a pending full-length release and tour this spring. The album, entitled Yesterday Was Lived & Lost, is described as a dance record, with ”the eccentricities of artists such as the Human League, Peter Gabriel, Robert Wyatt, Chris & Cosey, Cabaret Voltaire and Eno.” It will show itself on Mar. 5 via Lanark Records. The group will hit the road as an eight-piece unit—we hope with Nancy Wang and Tyler Pope—this spring.

The group released their second, “Do You Feel Loved,” last month, with remixes from Dominik Eulberg and Juju & Jordash. You can hear all three versions and peep the tracklist after the jump. …MORE

Hot Chip + LCD Soundsystem = New Build (MP3)

Don’t call them a supergroup. DFA artists have always liked to mix members, with Hot Chip’s Alex Doyle hitting the road with LCD Soundsystem as often as LCD drummer Pat Mahoney hit the skins for Hot Chip. Perhaps that’s the secret to the label’s seemingly bottomless well of excellent dance-flavored ideas—collaboration.

New Build continues the fine tradition, with Mahoney appearing on the occasional tune, plus Chipper Felix Martin delivering the lovely techno-pop of “Do You Feel Loved?,” backed by equally excellent remixes by Dominik Eulberg and Juju & Jordash.” The tune will get a limited edition 500 pressing vinyl release via their own Lanark Records.

Watch The Final LCD Soundsystem Show (Video)

Silver, spaceships and sixteeth notes.

LCD Soundsystem signed off last night with one final show at Madison Square Garden. It was fitting that a band that so clearly defined the New York aesthetic for the past decade wrap it up at the venue most associated with the Big Apple. The entire show, all 3 1/2 hours of it, was streamed on Pitchfork, making the Saturday evening gig one of the closest things the music scene gets to a communial experience in this age of earbud isolation. We courage you to watch the whole excellent thing, but play close attention to the 30 minute segment that starts about 1:10:00 in, where the band plays much of James Murphy’s magnum opus 45:33, easily the finest piece of music ever constructed for a Nike promotion.

Joined by a silver-suited choir and horn secton and a bevy of …

LCD Soundsystem – “All I Want” (Live London Sessions) (MP3)

You gotta suspect it’s always bummed out James Murphy that through nothing other than bad timing, his band LCD Soundsystem got good right when legendary radio programmer John Peel passed away, denying Murphy of ever getting to record a segment of the long revered Peel Sessions. So instead, Murphy’s crack band have recorded The London Sessions live for iTunes, dropping (or actually uploading?) tomorrow. Here’s a little taste of the sessions, the song “All I Want” from this year’s album, This Is Happening.
