Electric Daisy Carnival CEO Responds To Criticism

Electric Daisy Carnival founder and chief executive Pasquale Rotella has written an op-ed piece that was published in today’s LA Times. In the article, Rotella finally speaks out about the unfair targeting of EDC by the media that eventually pushed the festival out of Los Angeles after 15 consecutive years and millions of dollars in revenue for the city.

“A snowball of negative press and political fallout followed the tragic death of a teenager after the Electric Daisy Carnival in June 2010,” Rotella wrote. “Attention focused on such an alarming incident is understandable, but ever since then Insomniac has been unfairly placed under a microscope. The same scrutiny has not been applied to individuals engaging in illegal behavior or to other festivals and mass gatherings that endure similar issues.”

You can read the full op-ed at LATimes.com, and tell us in the comments section how you feel about EDC’s treatment more than a year after the events. …MORE

Electric Daisy Carnival Cancelled In LA. Moving To Vegas

After nine months of controversy, LA’s Electric Daisy Carnival has announced that it will not be returning to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as scheduled in June. In a press release, promoters Insomniac said that the events 13-year run in Los Angeles has been “postponed” due to an inability to secure the proper contracts needed to produce the event in a timely manner.

“Without an executed contract in place at this time, it has become impossible to guarantee to all of the fans and talent that EDC can be produced at this venue this year,” said Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella in the release. “We are grateful for all of the events we’ve been able to produce at the Coliseum and Sports Arena over the years, and for the support of the fans, Los Angeles, the Coliseum Commission and everyone who has contributed to those events.” …MORE

URB Exclusive: Swedish House Mafia’s “Miami 2 Ibiza” Instrumental + Thoughts on Insomniac VS L.A. Lawsuit (MP3)

This instrument-o is for you trainspotters out there: it simply arrives in an alarmed state and uses key changes to add drama, rather than build/break/build ad infinitum…we had the vocal version cued-up and ready to cane stream, but since we didn’t have a geo-border, we’re going with the instrumental, which I actually like better. As for the original vocal version, it rhymes “QVC” with “MP3″ and “C-K Briefs with PVC” making for a kinky, albeit materialistic, romp through the MC’s love connections. Feel free to add your own lyrics and send us the mp3 — we’d love to hear it.  Plus, some thoughts on raves and the people who love demonizing and prosecuting them…and our own apathy …MORE
