Benefit Art Exhibit for Overton Loyd in LA

Overton believes art can transcend the borders created by society and cultural differences. Born in Detroit, Overton is renowned for his stage shows, art, costumes, animation and album art for the funk/rock group George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic. The “art philanthropist” received a Billboard award for “Best Use of Computer Graphics” for the video “Atomic Dog.”

Starting this Saturday, April 10th, Creative Channel Arts and Catch-a-Dream Entertainment are hosting a benefit art exhibit for Overton. With music from DJ Phyz Ed and Norwood Fisher of Fishbone, the event runs from 5-10 pm and boasts a full bar and the Hit + Run crew will be screening tee shirts. The exhibit will be open every Sunday in April.

Live Review: Ebony Bones! @ The Echo in LA (02.05.10)

Ebony Bones is perhaps the most chattered about act in London right now. She’s a one-of-a-kind producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a great rhythm section and backing vocalists. Named as one of SXSW’s best new acts of 2009, her critically acclaimed debut album Bone Of My Bones is slated for release in the US later this year. Known for playing a role on the British TV drama Family Affairs, Ebony Thomas has also been nominated for The British Soap Awards’ sexiest female. I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed this album. Normally when I hear the word “disco” I brace myself in preparation to hear something wack. In my mind I've always associated disco music with corny shit. In some ways, that association may always be present, but Boogie Back seems to re-define disco.
