Another “Safety Dance” :: Daedelus – “Fates Say” (MP3)

Maybe it’s something in the air. Or more likely the stems recently leaked. However it came to be, here’s the third version of Men Without Hats’ ’80s classic “Safety Dance” in as many months. This one comes from LA “beat” hero Daedelus as part of All City Records monthly LA 10″ series. Play it back to back against Diplo’s track with Paper Route Gangstaz and Dilla’s own “Safety Dance” cover, and we can’t decide which one is superior. How would you rate them?

And now RCRDLBL has unearthed an instrumental cover of the 1982 classic by none other than the mighty J Dilla.

You can download this and five more Dilla beats compliments of Stones Throw.

Paper Route x Diplo x Men Without Hats (MP3)

If Diplo was to somehow come into possession of a Delorean or a phone booth or some other time-traveling vessel and then go back in time–twenty eight years–and explain to the band Men Without Hats that he was going to extrapolate a sample from their insanely infectious opus “The Safety Dance”, and glue a thumping bass line onto it while a crew of Alabama rappers toasted to life in the fast lane, their minds would have been blown.

However, manipulating the space-time-continuum for the sake of blowing the minds of Men Without Hats would have changed the course of time and we may not have Paper Route’s new banger “Stop N Go. I would, however, like to see if the Montreal-based band digs PRGz and Diplo’s usage. …
