MGMT’s Weird “Flash Delirium” (Video)

Of course any video with ventriloquists and a homecoming party in a mansion (hint hint “Congratulations”) would be mildly amusing, but this video quickly takes a turn for the downright freaky. While the message might vaguely be something about the effects of war–literal or figurative–it’s not the easiest sell coming from a duo who admits to supping up on drugs between records to live the rockstar life. It takes a few viewings to piece together, and then the maddening bombardment of chords and images at the finale reveals itself as the birth of the surfing bear creature on the album’s cover…. maybe? At least that’s going full circle.

Don’t Fight the Leak: Stream MGMT’s “Congratulations” (MP3)

Livin' in the land of the leak!

In case you, dear reader, are living under a rock OR have a serious daytime job/life/school and don’t cruise the blogosphere, then maybe you missed the leak of Congratulations. The boys and their label decided to embrace the leak and have posted the tracks on the band’s website. So far, it seems a bit soft and more pop-rock than the synthy and loveable psychedelia of Oracular Spectacular. Try “Someone’s Missing” first for that old-time MGMT sound. It’s all right here.

Surf’s Up: MGMT Reveal New Album Art

We all know that the MGMT boys have been toying around on a new album, and Congratulations will drop April 13 (via Columbia). Other than that, not too much info is out there… until the Anthony Ausgang-generated cover art was unveiled. Whoa. If you pre-order the album, you will receive an exclusive “scratch off front cover with custom metal coin.” Maybe that is what it takes to sell CDs these days, but how intriguing. When you pop said album in your soundsystem, you can expect flutes, songs of epic proportions and, hopefully, some flippin’ sweet jams.
