Dru Down – “Breezy” (Video)

G-Funk gets slagged off pretty frequently for being repetitive and unimaginative. But that could all just be chalked up to genre tropes. Regardless, Dru Down is an East Bay icon. He should be…

The Flakes – “Roulette” (Video)

There’s certainly a narrative in this self produced video that the Flakes dished out a while back. It’s all fun and games, though. Just take a listen to that hook.

Of Montreal x Jon Brion

The Of Montreal/ Jon Brion show at Oakland’s beautiful Fox Theatre was a show to remember. If you’ve never been to an Of Montreal show it is definately something to check out. The best word to describe it is crazy. For Of Montreal, performance is more than just playing songs, its a whole production. The show was started by a man dressed in a tiger mask screaming for about 30 second into the mic, then proceeded with lead singer Kevin Barnes being carried out onto the stage on the back of two band mates. It didn’t get any less weird all night. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story..

Mixtape: We Out Here Mang!

With all the cell-phone camera footage and tweets still pouring out of Texas, it’s good to remember that the whole point was about music. To celebrate, the good people’s at HipHopDX and MYX Music threw together this hot little number, mixed by the Oakland Faders’ own DJ Mere. (On a side note, as far as awesome DJ crew names goes: LA Leakers > Oakland Faders)

Featuring Keelay & Zaire (where this shit was first spotted), Rakaa from Dilated Peoples, Supastition, Guilty Simpson and grip more, it’s definitely worthy of a few (blunted) listenings.

Download it here.
