FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD and WINE

First thing’s first, Outside Lands is not only about the music. Granted, there is music but how many music festivals can you go to while sipping some nice California wines and munch on San Francisco’s gourmet food – it’s not just about the …

Bilal Interview w/ Centric TV (Video)

Bilal recently sat down with Centric TV in New York’s Time Square to discuss his upcoming album, Airtight’s Revenge coming late summer/early fall on Plug Research.  Bilal talks about the meaning behind the album title, labeling “Freedom” as one word to describe his album, working with an independent label like Plug Research as opposed to Interscope, his enjoyment of Martial Arts, and his love of people watching.

Bilal will also be on this year’s bill for UCLA’s 2 day Jazz/Reggae Festival on May 30th and May 31st, alongside Nas & Damian Marley, Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip, Barrington Levy, The Foreign Exchange, Nneka, Quadron, and many others…. flyer after the jump.

Look out for the upcoming announcement of Bilal’s Airtight’s Revenge album release date coming soon!

SXSW 2010 Day Four Pick: Nneka (Video)

One of the few names that I desperately wanted to check out was Nneka and her private performance at the Texas Embassy was full of heart and Nneka was all smiles for the crowd. There’s something about the way her lyrics, voice, music and vibe come together for a performance that beckons spectators to see a full show and listen to her record. I also saw She & Him at Stubb’s and then The Black Keys at Mohawk Patio, both of those performances were noteworthy. However, what I will remember most fondly about SXSW–and what I am most intrigued by–are the international acts that I saw. Nneka is the easiest one to appreciate because she sings in English, and, on a deeper note, there is something relevant about a singer/songwriter from Nigeria representing multiculturalism and defying commonplace expectations. Her border crossing was in the making for some time, and the attention she is gaining is greatly deserved.
