Inaugural Immunity

Since all of America is in the mood to talk about Diplomats today, I’ve decided to put an URB spin on things and bring this Inauguration full circle, which means it’s going back to Harlem. Now, I know you’re wondering to yourself how exactly Obama has anything to do with Harlem and because you’re probably reading this post from your office computer at work, I’m going to tell you. Obama started his community outreach work at City College in New York, which is right off 143rd St. and Amsterdam. In other words, it’s right in the heart of Harlem World USA. With that being said, it’s blatantly obvious that this here blog post is going to be about the red, white, and blue pigeon chain wearing dudes out of Harlem, Dipset. …

Thom Yorke’s Grammy Commercial

Radiohead lead grouse Thom Yorke has offered up his visage, plus a story about Bowie’s ‘Ashes to Ashes’ video for use in a commercial for the Grammys. The familiar flying text visual is Graffiti Research Labs, who already used this look for Jay-Z and Santogold’s ‘Brooklyn Go Hard‘ video. A song from the Notorious soundtrack that I don’t recall hearing in the film.

URB x Nike x Notorious Screening

URB Magazine teamed up with Nike Sportswear to usher in the new feature film about the life of Notorious B.I.G. The night was packed with loyal fans, so packed some were left outside, but those who got in definitely approved. Check the pictures of the action and a Q & A with the director George Tillman Jr. and URB alumni Brandon Perkins.

From the beginning, energy was in the air as fans packed The Montalban Theatre to secure a seat in what would proved to be a night to remember. The film begins with Biggie as a child and flows through major markers in his life such as meeting Puffy and Tupac. It also dives into his personal relationships with Lil Kim and Faith Evans.
