URB’s Top Picks for Electric Zoo 2011



Made Event’s monster festival on roids, Electric Zoo is back with an extra day and a massive lineup. While last year’s event was fantastic, this year’s lineup looks to overtake the previous incarnation by pouring out a ton of proper acts; sure there will be “stars” like Tiësto, David Guetta and Armin van Buuren, but there will also be our favorites on other, smaller stages. No, they’re not on the Billboard charts or playing stadium tours, but we love them and think they’re DAMN GOOD. With that said, here’s our recommendations on who to check out at the festival.

Kid Sister – Kiss Kiss Kiss (Mixtape) (MP3)

We love it when artists go on the DL for a little while, then one day you wake up and they’ve dropped something hot in your lap like they were just waiting for the right moment while you were forgetting they exist. That exactly what 2007 URB cover starlet Melisa “Kid Sister” Young, just did with this new 13-song mixtape, Kiss Kiss Kiss, featuring guests Nina Sky and Gucci Mane, remixers Laidback Luke and Caspa, and DJ Nick Catchdubs. Guess she wasn’t hiding after all, she was in the lab assembling this mix that we hesitate to call a comeback—but it is nice to see her again.

Fool’s Gold Announces ‘Vol. 1′ CD Compilation

It’s hard to belive that Fool’s Gold, the NYC label run by DJ pals A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, is only three years old. So while it might be premature to refer to the imprint as “seminal” it’s hard to underestimate it’s impact on music over these scant past 36 months.

To celebrate, Fool’s Gold is releasing their first ever CD compilation on October 25th via the highly exclusive Opening Ceremony boutiques in New York, LA and Tokyo. It will also be out on all the usual digital retailers. The disc features all new material from the stable of FG artists, including Treasure Fingers, Kid Sister, Jokers of the Scene, Flosstradamus and many more. …MORE

URB Presents: Bassanovva (EXCLUSIVE MIX) + Flashing Lights 2-Year Anniversary Debut (MP3)

Finally, after much-deserved buzz from DJs and clubhounds, the duo of Jubilee (Brooklyn’s favorite DJ) and Grahm Zilla (1/2 of  Thunderheist) are finally coming out of the dark as Bassanovva. With an upcoming release on Sinden’s Grizzly imprint, the duo are already stand-alone excellent DJs but together they very well could be the firestarters on the floor. Even more exciting will be their debut, presented by one of URB’s favorite NYC parties, Flashing Lights, who will be celebrating their 2-year anniversary. Along with that they’ve provided an EXCLUSIVE mix for us that’s absolutely amazing, highlighting the up-and-coming talents of today’s bass scene as well as bits of their upcoming release. Greg Nice “Motherfuck@” w/A-Trak, Pete Rock, Lil Jon + More (URB Premier) (Video)

Legendary artist Greg Nice leaked a new video entitled “Motherfuck@” from his upcoming album, The Popcycle, due out September 28th via One Haven Music/Industry Rule 4080.

The video was created through various drops from DJ’s such as A-Trak, Lil Jon, DJ Premier, DJ Scottie B, Roxy Cottontail, Pete Rock, DJ Big Ben, Thee Mike B, Nick Catchdubs, Todd Terry, Rich Medina and many more. The video introduces a different side of Greg to fans and newcomers alike, with his catchy rhymes and hooks dropping over a heavy club track.
