Weapons of Audio – “Life Goes” and “Dreams” (MP3)

Weapons of Audio – “Life Goes”

Emerging brother duo Weapons of Audio return with another genre melting track - ”Life Goes” - from their Jam In The Van sessions. Rapper Floyd Daniels delivers a poetic tale of life’s trials and tribulations as his younger brother Jeremy belts out a soulful hook and the drummer rocks a Peruvian pan flute beatbox, continuing WOA’s trend of uniquely blending soul, hip-hop and indie rock vibes.

Weapons of Audio perform in Los Angeles tonight at Check Yo Ponytail 2 at Echoplex along with Tokimonsta, The Very Best and Jonwayne.    They also perform at City Stock Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday September 1st with Black Crystal Wolf Kids, Noah & The Megafauna and Ninja Betty.  Download their latest single “Dreams” from Soundcloud.

J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science – Undercover (Review)

J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science

Undercover

Released by OM Records

My familiarity with J-Boogie comes from the various remix and edit work he has done in the past (including one he made for Vieux Farka Touré's "Fafa" from 2009) as well as his collaboration with fan favorites People Under the Stairs, Quantic and his Combo Barbaro, Bay Area compadres Zion I, Goapele and Raashan Ahmad spanning multiple projects, personal and by others. By no means an exhaustive list, J-Boogie’s talent is undeniable and his knowledge of mixing, sampling, and creating great-sounding gems continues to this day. J-Boogie’s extensive network ...

Paul White

Rapping With Paul White

Released by One-Handed Music

Part hip-hop, part electrofunk and part space-jazz, UK producer Paul White’s new record Rapping With Paul White, is a genre-bending mixture of geographically diverse sounds. Featuring Detroit’s heavy-hitter Guilty Simpson of Stones Throw and Random Axe fame on the single “Trust” as well as the Motor City rapper Danny Brown on “One of Life’s Pleasures”, Paul White cooks up some delectable selections for our audible consumption—from straightforward hip-hop bangers, to more methodical and introspective instrumental tracks. In addition to the already mentioned stellar collaborations, there are some intelligently composed tracks ...

Little Dragon @ The Roxy Theatre 8/15/11 (Live Review)

Fresh from the July 25th release of their third album, Ritual Union (Peacefrog Records), Little Dragon came through the famous Roxy club in West Hollywood eager to perofm new material to an intimate and elated crowd. Immensely talented, the Swedish quartet functions organically and collectively, as all members of the group substantially contribute to the overall sensation of the music: the synths are deep, the basslines heavy and pronounced, with (nu)jazz percussion facilitating movement between the soloists and the beautiful Japanese-Swedish vocalist Yukimi Nagano.

The show began with the opening track from their new album; title track “Ritual Union,” a tune threaded together with dark and hollow synthesizers with enough bounce to get a solid two-step going. An effective and delightful warm-up leading up to the equally soulful and effervescent second track …

Stereolab – Not Music (Review)

Stereolab

Not Music

Released by Drag City / Duophonic

London-based experimental, electronic, post-rock and pop music outfit Stereolab return to marketplace with a brilliant collection, Not Music, an accompaniment to their underappreciated 2008 effort, Chemical Chords.  While it stands alone as a record in its own right, the tracks included on Not Music are cues left out from their last record; it follows the format of some previous b-sides and rarities collections they’ve put out such as Fab Four Suture, Oscillations from the Anti-Sun and the Switched On series.  Not Music is perhaps not as cohesive as Chemical ...
