New Order, Smiths, Stone Roses bassists get down

The ever verbos Peter Hook has gone and posted up an unfinished version of “I Envy Us,” from Freebass, his project with Stone Roses bassists Mani and Smiths bassists Andy Rourke on his MySpace page. Billboard is reporting that Hook plans on getting the album finished before Christmas so that he can get the non-Spinal-Tap-Live-Earth-performance inspired super-group onto the festival circuit by next year. Only problem so far is, to these ears, “I Envy Us” sounds like a couple of high-school freshmen having thier first wank at trying to sound like Rush. Maybe they'll fix it in post.

Tony Wilson R.I.P.

Tony Wilson, founder of Factory Records and The Hacienda, has died. The 57 year-old legend had been battling kidney cancer.

Wilson was an indie rock legend, discovering post-punk dieties Joy Division in the late '70s, as well as their next band, New Order. He also founded The Hacienda, the egendary Manchester club that served as ground zero for the infant rave movement during the '80s acid house era, defined by the Madchester sound and the band, The Happy Mondays.

Their album, “CexCells,” is …

Temptation (Last Night a Song Saved My Life Remix)

Released by Underground

Peter Black has done a really good job of highlighting the most memorable points of the song and bringing them in at points that the listener will find surprising. I also like how, contrasting to the original recording, the power emphasis for certain sections increases in the rhythm section, adding a dense layer of sixteenth notes underneath the epic chorus. The original song is one of my favorite songs ever recorded, but I still feel completely comfortable with this as a substitute when playing out.
