In the run up to the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day, Trovata, Urban Outfitters, and the Staying Alive Foundation (MTV’s international initiative to encourage HIV prevention) all teamed up to increase awareness about the global epidemic HIV/AIDS. As their contribution to the movement, Trovata will be donating all the proceeds from their limited edition “The Lovers” t-shirt to the Staying Alive Foundation. Urban Outfitters in conjunction will carry the shirt in their stores starting Dec and, in a similar fashion, donate the funds to the initiative. The collaboration culminated with a celebratory event at Social Hollywood in Los Angeles last Thursday.
Even if Millennials vote at only the same rate that young people did in 2004, Obama will receive about a six million vote plurality from them. Given the political interest and high voter turnout that Millennials showed in the presidential primaries earlier this year, it seems likely that their turnout on Tuesday will be higher than that of young voters four years ago. If 55 percent of Millennials go to the polls, Obama’s plurality among them will grow to about seven million. And, if Millennials vote at the same 60 percent rate that older generations do, Obama’s national plurality from young voters will be almost eight million.
Designer Mike Cina, man behind the You Work For Them design collective, is releasing limited edition 12 inch sleeves for Spectral Sound, the sub-label of the artsy Ghostly International Records. These three covers represent new Spectral talent, including Kate Simko, Sami Koivikko, and duo Daso and Pawas. The use of 8-color to 12-color ink jet printers make these prints the best they can be; the finest of fine art. Each print (about 40) is hand-numbered and signed by Cina himself. You can get them at the Ghostly Store.
URB publisher, Raymond Roker, decided out of sheer ambition and a dose of chutzpah, to do a post every day (well, almost) between now and the election and tie it to a letter of the alphabet. All the posts–in order, from A to Z–will be election and politics oriented.
G is for Green for All (Eco living for the rest of us) My Yosi (of Obama/Hope campaign fame) is a daily bike commuter from his home near Downtown to an office in Hollywood. My half sister Natalie lives in Eugene, Oregon, and is pretty green in a typical Pacific Northwest fashion. …
It has been almost a full year since URB partnered with international design collective “The KDU” and Creative Director Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic (known to us simply as “Lex”) to transform the design of our beautiful, award-winning magazine.
