The folks over at Dancing Mood and its affiliated sites have been brining in some new ska and reggae music for a while now. The fact that the genres aren’t necessarily propelling anyone to stardom hasn’t slowed its pace. And luckily enough, they’ve been kind enough to post the Roots Rock Rebel show from last week that features none other than Slackers’ guitarist Agent Jay. Tracklisting and link below. And thanks to jgarber for the pic…

Artists Design for Soundscreen Design Summer 2009 Collection

Here’s some cool artwork for band gear designed by L.A.’s Brian Roettinger/Hand Held Heart, Montreal’s Seripop, and Chicago’s Jay Ryan/The Bird Machine. They lend a hand to styling Soundscreen Design’s summer collection featuring No Age, Gang Gang Dance, Deerhoof, Handsome Furs, Fucked Up, Liars, Battles, The National, and Pelican.

You can grab the gear (I like the Deerhoof hoodie) at record stores and specialty boutiques, along with Soundscreen Design’s and participating bands’ websites. It’s nice to see more art and thought going into merchandise, and Soundscreen Design is owned by Insoud aka the folks with other cool indie art projects.

Art Work Pays

Digitata Art Work Pays (Totally Gross National Product)
Review by Sound Verite’

The Minneapolis arty-electro trio Digitata quickly became beloved due to its dark electronic experiments and the amazing, passionate and soaring vocals of Maggie Morrison with muti-instrumentalist Ryan Olson and Drew Christopherson. After a hiatus of sorts, Morrison joined Grant Cutler and started a new downbeat project Lookbook, which also became toast of the town.

Digitata got together for 4 days and came out with Art Work Pays, 9 new tracks that make up the follow-up to their 2006′ s II Daggers. Art Work Pays was recorded this spring at the home of Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. Like Brooklyn’s Dirty Projectors without the layered vocals, Digitata are quirky and synth heavy with futuristic programming full of laptop tricks and emotionally …
