Burning Man Comes To Downtown Los Angeles

Ever wonder what it would really be like to fall down a rabbit hole and end up in Wonderland?  Then enter the Lucent Lamour experience, an interactive art and music festival that lures you deep into a world of fantasy, self-discovery and artistic expression, aimed to expand your mind and stimulate all of your senses (results, of course, depend on how much acid you’ve consumed).  This visionary event takes place annually in Los Angeles on Valentines Day weekend and is presented by Do-Lab, the collective well-known for creating many of the dramatic installations and eccentric environments at festivals like Coachella and Burning Man.  Thousands of attendees came out to witness live art creations, theatrical performances, carnival freaks and exotic beats….

N.A.S.A. “Spacious Thoughts” feat. Tom Waits & Kool Keith (Video)

And speaking of ultra-hyped blog buzz, remeber last spring when a day couldn’t go by without some new leak, link or remix coming from N.A.S.A.? Must be something about these collective albums that get’s people so aflutter. N.A.S.A.’s been quite for the second half of ‘09, but now a video for “Spacious Thoughts” feat. Tom Waits & Kool Keith. The clip sticks with the same animation policy as the rest of the N.A.S.A. clips, this time directed by Fluorescent Hill and animation by Mark Lomond, Johanne Ste-Marie, & Jacques Khouri. There should be a DVD of this stuff coming sometime soon.

N.A.S.A. Lands in LA, Takes El Rey (Video)

Our recent cover stars were in LA last night and wowed the dancing crowd at the El Rey with a few special appearances. Squeak E Clean and Zegon came onstage in a spaceship and had their name flashing on it. This is the way cooler NASA. Fatlip was also onstage for “The Salmon Dance” and a few other tracks. Money Mark was on keyboards and Barbie Hatch loaned her pipes on “Way Down.” Kanye West, via satellite, introduced “Gifted,” which features Santigold and Lykke Li on the album cut, and NME reports attendees “stormed the stage for a massive dance party.” Not surprised. The show also had dancers dressed as one-eye aliens with giant tongues. [NME]

Here’s a video taken from the stage, the jostling gives a taste of being there:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs live @ T In The Park (Video)

Lollapalooza is rapidly approaching, and although I am a bit upset about the Beastie Boys‘ cancellation on the Chicago Festival (although it is definitely necessary, and I wish Adam Yauch good health and a speedy recovery), I am fairly excited one of my favorite live bands has stepped in to fill the void: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If you want to get an idea of the sheer magnitude of a YYY performance, check out this clip of the guys performing @ T In The Park.

And if you’re in town for Lolla, don’t forget to head over to Kid Cudi, Amazing Baby, Hood Internet and many more.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs ‘Snakesweat’ (Video)

This short film from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and directed by Karen O and Barney Clay (also responsible for the “Zero” video), is purely ridiculous. It’s borderline–heck, it is–freaky, and to me, the imagery reminds me of Fellini’s La Strada and the life of a circus couple. Overall though, I love that the YYYs do their own thing and their work always stands out as unique amongst the millions of videos dropping each week. “Snakesweat” is a surrealist picture of their alter-egos (the Black Widow, the Philosopher, and the Scientist) trying to reclaim the universe.
