Mute Records Head Daniel Miller Produced New Liars Album

For a band like Liars, who have released five albums of challenging music over the past decade, Mute Records has always been the perfect home. The label’s almost 25-year history of releasing music that rides the line between popularity and difficult listening (from Depeche Mode to Throbbing Gristle)  is nearly unparalleled. So it’s fitting that for the band’s as yet untitled sixth album, Mute honcho Daniel Miller came onboard for some of the producer duties. Besides flawless A&R, Miller’s own musical talent can be heard on everything from his original synth-punk band Fad Gadget to work on albums by DM, Yazoo, Alison Moyet and Goldfrapp, which makes this pairing something to look forward to.

STREAM VCMG (Vince Clark & Martin Gore) :: ‘Ssss’ (MP3)

You’re never too old to techno. Want proof? VCMG, the Berlin-inspired techno project by Depeche Mode alums Vince Clark and Martin Gore. Despite having 118 years between them, the pair have made one of the finest dance floor ready techno albums we’ve heard in a long time. Perhaps the fact that both have day jobs in platinum selling techno-pop projects meant that there was no need for the usual compromises EDM acts make when producing an album project. What Ssss offers is 60 minutes of tough and smart techno that wouldn’t sound out of place at clubs worldwide, from Berghain Berlin to Womb in Tokyo. Vince Clarke & Martin Gore Of Depeche Mode Reveal Techno Album Details

A little over a month ago, we were treated to “Spock” the first track from current and former Depeche Mode members Martin Gore and Vince Clarke. And boy was a it a serious banger. The duo, who have been recording under the name VCMG haven’t given up any new tunes since, but we’ll be hearing plenty come March 12 when they release their album, Ssss, on Mute Records. Depeche Mode Founders Vince Clarke and Martin Gore Unveil New Techno Track 

This summer, it was announced that Depeche Mode founding members Vince Clarke and Martin Gore were working together for the first time in 30 years. The pair promised a “techno record” produced under the name VCMG. We have the first results of this reunion, the dark and melodic “Spock,” which will be released as an EP on Mute Records with remixes from Regis, DVS1, Edit-Select and XOQ (aka Überzone).

New M83 :: “Midnight City” (MP3)

Anthony Gonzalez has unveiled the first single off of M83’s upcoming double album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, which is out October 18 on Mute Records. “Midnight City” offers up some of the ’80s babies flavor (dig that sax) we loved on M83’s previous album, Saturdays=Youth, along with the wall of sound production we’ve come to expect from the group’s entire catalog.
