Gaspard Auge (Justice) Talks New Album and Film Soundtrack

Following several years of relative silence, there’s been some movement from the Justice camp, with a new single, “CIVILIZATION” promised next month and appearing in an Adidas ad. But there’s been more happening in the background, including Gaspard Auge participation on the soundtrack for Rubber, the a new film by director and electro auteur Quentin Dupieux (aka Mr. Oizo). Gaspard is usually considered the “quiet one” in Justice interviews, but URB got to ask him a few questions about the new project and of course, what’s up with his day job?

How did you first get involved with Rubber? Did Quinten approach you?

I’ve always had a soft spot for beards, so it was very natural to go and work with Quentin. Quentin is really a very straight-forward guy, music and movie-wise there no happy ending. …

Let The Children Techno (Review)

Compilation

Let The Children Techno

Released by Ed Banger Records

“Admit it, deep inside you’ve always thought of BUSY P as Santa Claus to Ed Banger’s North Pole. And you knew DJ MEHDI was kind of the African cousin to the Whipping Father. Well, guess what? This winter they gathered their favourite newcomers, added a couple of old-timers, mixed them together and cooked the best holiday electronic dish. A brand new compilation of all fresh and unreleased music, down and up-tempo, love and dub-step, warm and cold-beats, and more international than Jesus. Just like the season.” - Pedro Winter [http://busyp.coolcats.fr/2011/01/let-the-children-techno-4/] Compilation ...

Stream New Flying Lotus, Busy P, Mr. Oizo and more (MP3)

Compilation CDs have had a rough couple of years. With MP3 mixes in abundance, it has seemed as if taking the time to properly curate (and license) a collection of songs is a losing proposition. That is, unless you’re ultra-hype French imprint Ed Banger, and your new mix, Let The Children Techno, has tons of new music by artists such as Flying Lotus, Busy P, Mr. Oizo, Cassius and more. You can stream the entire album, mixed by Busy P and DJ Mehdi, on MySpace. Just please don’t rip the tracks and try to play them out. Low quality streams are not meant for da club.

Warning: You have to remember your MySpace login to hear the full tracks …

Mr. Oizo ‘Rubber’ Film Poster

Beyond being one of the best french techno/electro producers to come out the past decade, Quentin Dupieux has builts up quite the IMDB listing as well. His most recent film,  Rubber, features music by Oizo and Gaspard Auge from Justice, which pretty much makes it the most-blogable-thing-EVER. It also features a murderous rubber tire, which kinda makes sense from a guy who turned a banal felt puppet Flat Eric into an iconic ’90s aberration.

Here’s a sampleing of the soundtrack composed by Oizo and Auge, followed by a clip from the film. You can see the whole flick On-Demand February 25 and in very cool theaters April 1.
