Mount Kimbie follow up their highly-regarded 2010 album, Crooks & Lovers with an EP that stays on track with the duo’s crisp-yet-dusty take on post-dubstep (couldn’t we just get retro and call it IDM?). The Carbonated EP comes out July 18th on Hot Flush, and features three new tunes by Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, plus remixes by Airhead and Belgium’s latest techno star, Peter Van Hoesen.
As the grinder known as SXSW Music Festival descended upon Austin, Texas for the 25th time, festival-goers would notice immediately that this was pretty big; in the manner that it was most likely the most-attended festival since SXSW’s inception. Sixth Street was a bastion for hipsters, journalists, photographers, DJs, bands and music-hungry young adults looking to find the nearest fix and free party wherever it may be; whilst it was at time a cataclysmic circus around the area, the festival did provide once again its showcase of every band, every genre, and every party imaginable. It’s been approximately 13 hours since the Coachella line-up was announced, and while folks are still thrashing about, talking the merits of headliners Kanye West and Kings of Leon (guess everyone is cool with Arcade Fire?) we decided to go a bit deeper into the crowded line-up and spot a few acts you might not have noticed yet.
