German-born and Berlin resident Sascha Ring, also known by his more recognizable name, Apparat, has had one of the most consistent electronic artist careers to date.  With his knack for beautiful compositions and sonic artisanship, Apparat has developed a unique style of his own through a synesthetic blend of ambient, downtempo, techno, glitch and even trip-hop elements. Best Of ‘09: Top 10 Electronic Tracks (URB Contributor Mitch Strashnov) (Video)

An introspective and mind-numbing selection of the best electronic tracks of 2009.

Anyone who comes to URB should know, we cover an extensive amount of music from every genre and subgenre. Things aren’t always easily to compile in lists, especially putting together “top ten” lists. Now try doing that with the generalization of a genre called “electronic music.” Some people still don’t know what the difference between techno and house is, and of course we’re here to provide the difference. But, we’re also here to show our appreciation to the tracks that have made us move, groove, bop, boom, and, most importantly, enjoy every second from the first beat to the last. Tanner Ross : Interview :: Voodeux Puts A Spell On You

In Mar, Tanner and partner James Watts debuted Voodeux’s live set to an intimate crowd in Detroit. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Now with the recent release of their first LP, The Paranormal, the accolades only continue to roll in. Tanner talked with us a bit about the creative process and where Voodeux’s music fits into the big picture. He also took time to discuss some of his musical influences, not to mention list a few of his favorite all time horror movies.

So what came first, the concept behind your sound or the sound …

Sonar Festival 2009 Barcelona. Part 2.

Sonar by Night is the rave up. Pure and simple. A gargantuan airport hanger 15 minutes out of town (btw this should only cost about 12 Euros, not 40 Euros, which they will try… there’s a free bus, but it gets hectic) with one indoor stage and two outdoors. The main pull of the Friday night is Grace Jones who, although hitting the stage an hour late makes up for it by appearing on a 20 foot high tower with almost 20 foot long legs, belting her diva voclas on hits like Nightclubbing, before straddling poles and big ass fan machines. Although (much like the Sonar By Day programming) there’s the breakthrough electro disco UK acts like Little Boots playing on the main outdoor SonarPub stage, it’s about the Mary Anne Hobbs presents… showcase.
