Our favorite rave god / vegan has released the first video from his upcoming retrun to techno form, Last Night. Never one for subtlety, the video features a giant chicken chasing down and slaughtering Colonel Sanders. What this has to do with the song we have no idea, but “Disco Lies” could have been a fixture on MTVs The Grind, and I mean that in the most complimentary way.
Moby has announced a November 25th release date for Last Night Remixed. But for this album he’s recruited some of the hottest up and coming names in electronica to remix his music. Call it a variety of interpretations, or a straight up competition, but you’ll find multiple spins on Moby hits like “I Love to Move in Here” and “Disco Lies.” A heavyweight in the remix world himself, Moby was likely inspired by his experiences, inviting others to do so for him: “One of the best things about producing and remixing other artists is to deconstruct their master tapes and see how they’ve put their songs together…almost like going back to school. Remixes in 2008 are more important than they’ve ever been…” Read more for the full track list, and check URB’s Moby feature and …
Hiro Ballroom, NYC November 15th, 2007, ‘round midnight…Moby, his fans and this writer all want the same thing—to be Him or a Significant Part Of Him, based on whatever their self-interested idea of “Him” is; for me he’s an interesting subject that I have to get quotes from; for the girl-in-a-band who came over and poured herself a drink from our scotch bottle, he’s the path to a record deal, while the girl standing in the front row waiting for Him to go on is just hoping to make eye contact.
And in between these three agendas is a myriad of fans of the godhead—the individual who most overtly represents the American rave movement and the ongoing rise and fall and rise of a music and culture, now experiencing its first trendy rebirth and subsequent nostalgia. Tonight he is …
These days it’s pretty much expected that every band’s gonna have their songs in commercials, TV shows, movies, video games and oh yeah Maybe on a CD or two, but it wasn’t all that long ago when letting one of your precious songs become tied to a commercial product was sure sign of selling out.
So if everyone's selling out, does it still matter? Well blogger and former NPR arts editor Bill Wyman was troubled by this trend, and realizing there was no way to fight this tide, he instead turned to Jim Anderson, a math professor at England’s University of Southampton to determine just how big of a sellout each artist actually is. Anderson created a formula they’ve dubbed The Moby Quotient in honor of the licensing perfection the bald musician achieved with his Play …
Los Angeles, Aug 15 — The writing on the men's bathroom stall read, “David is gay.” If that were any indication for all of the happenings for the night, then the diverse crowd of hip-hop heads would have been in for a huge disappointment. The spot would of been full of dudes in drag bumping and grinding on stripper poles, shaking to Lords of Acid. But fortunately for the House of Blues on Sunset, it wasn't that kind of party. And with Z-Trip behind the ones and twos, it would be a hell-mutha-fuckin' no.
Plastered along the HOB walls were posters celebrating 2K Sports latest outing. Dudes were tackling each other on All Pro Football 2K8 on the Xbox 360 in the back while their girlfriends were tackling at their Henny 'n' Coke watching their boyfriends …
