They grow up so fast. One day Mikey Rocks is the fresh-faced 17-year-old MC for heavily-buzzed throwback rap duo The Cool Kids. The next day, he’s Sir Michael Rocks, dropping his own awaited mixtape, maturely titled. SMR let’s loose over 25 tracks, with guests like Sir Charles (Chuck Inglish anyone?), Madlib and Pac Div. We’re going on almost three years time since The Cool Kids graced the cover of URB magazine, and there’s still no proper full-length on the horizon. While this has to be some sort of frustrating record set by Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks, we can’t stay mad when they periodically drop a track like “Big Talk.” Three listens in and we still can’t figure out what the heck that buzzing sample is supposed to be. If “Big Talk” becomes a hit, will the ‘ketamine hornet’ sound become all the rage in hip-hop?
