Free Summer Concert In Your Town

This Summer or Fall, you can catch performances by Gnarls Barkley, Justice, The Roots, MGMT, and many others without coming out of your pockets. Yes, that means free, people.

C3, the masterminds behind Lollapalooza has teamed up with Southern Comfort premium liqueur, to present music lovers with the SoCo Music Experience, a U.S. nationwide mega concert festival headlined by chart-topping musicians—at least 10 acts in one day. The only requirement is being at least 21 and having a vaild I.D.

Along with the concerts, visitors can partake in a host of extracurricular activities, food, video games and fashion vendors on site.

The SoCo Music Experience festival tour will touchdown in the following cities this summer:

Tart-y Party Secrets Revealed, and this week’s WBDYTYI.

This past weekend marked my return to the Hanger Bar on East 3rd street. I brought my favorite tracks from the UK excursion, as well as a newfound love for the “What Band Do You Think YOU’RE In” game. Amazingly enough, one can play the game while shooting pool at HB. So it goes when a Friday night party attracts disgruntled locals (aka, starving musicians of the E.Vill.) and the women who love to grind em.

So here we are, a lil guide to my favorite singles of the moment:

Airwalk Revisits the Legendary Vic Velcro

Originally introduced in 1987, the Vic was created to help skaters from blowing out laces during skate sessions. This year, Airwalk decided to bring back their legendary skate shoe and featured it at this year’s SxSw festival, creating only 100 pairs for bands and tastemakers. The limited edition Vic Velcro is one of the first re-releases for the brand and will not be sold to the public until Summer 08 at key retailers.

MGMT – Oracular Spectacular (Review)

Because of the overly dramatic nature of MGMT's vocals Oracular Spectacular necessitates and essentially thrives only with melodramatic musical accompaniment. This is meant affectionately. For the most part, the MGMT duo of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser come through. Opener "Time to Pretend" exemplifies this best, as the synths provide quirky cartoonish bounces to tales of fancy car whipping and coke snorting pipe-dreams. However, the record grows sluggish at certain points, particularly when they try to get super sentimental on that ass. The predictable guitar strums on "Weekend Wars" ...
