Devendra Banhart “Baby” with GZA, MGMT, The Strokes Drummer (Video)

This video needs a disclaimer along the lines of: “Kids, this is what happens when you let the drugs get you.” Devendra’s been trippy, yeah, but I thought spants were dead and gone? The song, “Baby,” is adorable, but I don’t want to think of where it seems to take place (watch and see what I mean). Along the sidewalk, Devendra picks up his pals–MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden and The Strokes’ Fabrizio Moretti–and before you know it, there’s some kookiness and GZA is a pharaoh. Watch and try to connect the dots.

Video: Kid Cudi/MGMT/Ratatat “Pursuit of Happiness” (Video)

Superstar MC gets a little help from his superstar friends.

I always liked Run DMC/Aerosmith’s version of “Walk This Way.” It gave me a sense of hope that this world could live in harmony….eh, it just sounded great.

Kid Cudi, MGMT and Ratatat have all come together to make a new track to please all of your internet curiosities. “Pursuit of Happiness” is the third release from Kid Cudi’s album, Man on the Moon: End of Day and features vocals from MGMT and production from Ratatat.

The track, which perfectly blends the guitar distortion from Ratatat, the slow and heavy flows of Kid Cudi and optimistic vocals of MGMT, all come together and form the perfect dichotomy of indie synths and hip hop break beats.

And the video doesn’t stop there with hip hop’s ability to deal with conflict and indie’s ability to maintain anonymity (although you can totally tell it’s Ratatat playing along in the video).

Surf’s Up: MGMT Reveal New Album Art

We all know that the MGMT boys have been toying around on a new album, and Congratulations will drop April 13 (via Columbia). Other than that, not too much info is out there… until the Anthony Ausgang-generated cover art was unveiled. Whoa. If you pre-order the album, you will receive an exclusive “scratch off front cover with custom metal coin.” Maybe that is what it takes to sell CDs these days, but how intriguing. When you pop said album in your soundsystem, you can expect flutes, songs of epic proportions and, hopefully, some flippin’ sweet jams.

Full lineup and info after the jump.

iamamiwhoami Has Us Stumped (Video)

Nothing like a bit of intrigue to generate a healthy-sized buzz in the olde online marketplace, right?

These YouTube clips, which have prominently featured a muddied female slinking through some sort of surreal living wilderness, have been steadily gathering steam, with each successive installment furthering their mystique. Rumors abound as curious fans have already flagged everyone from MGMT to Trent Reznor to Christina Aguilera as being the artists responsible. Still, the hunt continues even after a fourth video has dropped, with all this continued speculation confirming that there is still no clear cut consensus as to what exactly this is all about. Regardless, there’s just something about these mysterious little vignettes, be it the artful cinematography or ample amounts of tree-licking, that manage to stick out amidst the hyper-saturated digital milieu. But until someone pieces together whatever message is hidden in all these number codes and animal glyphs, it looks like we’re all in the same boat.
