I’ve been dog-sick with a fever for most of this new year and only two things so far have gotten me seriously up: seeing Melvin Van Peebles at a live audience Q+A (up soon) and the announcement of the 2011 Bonnaroo line-up. Herewith, the first round of the line-up and a few flashback vids from from ?uestlove +Led Zeps JPJ + Ben Harper jamming, David Byrne, Neon Indian, Erykah Badu and !!!, with much more en route…WARNING: partial nudity, nipplez alert!
Swedish Director Andreas Nilsson is the person responsible for creating music videos for people like MGMT, The Knife, Bright Eyes, Fever Ray. Andreas and I had a small convo via e-mail about being a creative in the 21st century, how he got into ‘film’ and his work with Karin Dreijer Andersson.
Being in a band, you constantly face a barrage of things on stage: from people looking bored, to possible riots and once in while fans throwing things at you to assault you or feel more connected to you. MGMT was playing in Manchester when someone threw a bottle of pee and it pelted Will Berman’s chest, I guess exploding all over him causing him to drown in the urine. So I mean as a regular human being, I would not want to come back onstage-especially because I was just humiliated. So the webs is saying how the band had to ‘plea’ him to come back and finish the set (which he didn’t forcing the band to finish the concert without him), because you know performers are robots and absolutely must ignore whatever ‘human emotions’ and let the crowd dictate what …
I have to point out that whoever is styling them is right on the money. This entire album the band has been extremely clean, cute, preppy yet scholarly and right on point with most of the seasonal trends. MGMT’s new video for “Congratulations” has our fashion forward boys sauntering through the desert underneath a blueish beige sky, guiding their inner spirit-watching it fall to pieces. Sounds like my typical Monday!
