First rule of attending a festival is that there will be afterparties. Since the first DEMF found Derrick May DJing to 200 friends in a late-night art gallery space, the Movement party scene has grown to seveal dozen events, ranging from amped-up clubnights to secret venue all-nighters. Since Detroit is a 2am town, and many of these venues are not typically used for DJ music, there’s always the chance for a bum party. But that’s part of the adventure once you leave Hart Plaza and start exploring the city’s darker corners. Here’s a list of events where you’ll find URB—bloodshot eyes and all. …MORE
Promoters Paxahau have announced more talent has been added to the 2011 Detroit Movement Festival, including the first ever live performance by Carl Craig under his 69 guise. Though not as well known as Craig’s work under his own name, as well as Paperclip People and Innerzone Orchestra, many of the techno legend’s most infamouse tracks were recorded under the 69 name.

On the decks and on stage, however, things get a little more down and dirty. Between the two of them, they have more scuffs on their boogie shoes than an entire club full of bottle-service starlets could hope to buy in a lifetime. …MORE
We’ve had the new album by Bot’Ox on repeat for about a week here at URB HQ, but of course we had to promise his label—Cosmo Vitalli’s I’m A Cliché imprint—not to share any of it. So we’re happy to finally have something to post up from these guys outta Indianapolis, France (really!?). This Morgan Geist remix is a reminder that dude is more than just one half of eight-wave disco pioneers Metro Area. Dude gives the track a jerky-robot feel that’ll make you want to do the ’80s half-steppin skank dance in no time.

This week’s mix comes from Kris Menace, owner of the Work It Baby Record label. Having worked with such French house heavyweights as Fred Falke and Alan Braxe, Menace is not stranger to the funky side of electro. Enjoy. Tracklist >>
