Just in time for some of you fellas to save dough on Valentine’s Day, ‘Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out’ by the newest addition to Stones Throw records, Mayer Hawthorne, is sure to help break the news to even the most intimidating lady. The first time I heard this tune I just though it was an old record my man had found. Then he asks me, ‘hey mami, did you know DJ Haircut is a singer?’ Say word!?! I rushed over and saw that yes indeed, it was the funky mixer himself, Haircut, singing this song a la Eddie Kendricks. Who knew the man could sing falsetto? Who knew his first name was Mayer? What a surprise, I honestly though it was a record from the early ’70s, its that good. Cop this track people.
