Over the weekend Matthew Dear’s Big Hands reached their way to Chicago’s Smartbar. Backed by bass, drums and his omnipresent laptop, the keenly dressed Dear showed off the frontman chops that have been earning his latest effort rave reviews.
Silhouetted in front of some mesmerizing video projections, Dear and the band added a bit of chop to their techno-pop sound as they worked through much of the excellent Asa Breed album. They didn’t forget to throw in classics “Tide” and “Dog Days” and seemed to be having just as much fun as the crowd.
