“Remiix” Richie Hawtin’s Minus Label On Your iPhone

Since his early days manipulting records on three turntables with an arsenal of foot pedals to his Decks, EFX & 909 heyday and the salient Closer to the Edit deconstruction of techno, Richie Hawtin has always been searching for a new alchemy with which to transform the traditional techno track into something more.

While the world was preparing for Christmas 2011, Hawtin’s new mobile app publisher Liine unveiled Remiix, an app for iPhone that let’s you “combine, transform and re-arrange” tracks released on his revered Minus label. Interpol – Interpol (Review)

Interpol

Interpol

Released by Matador

The ever-present longing of Paul Banks’ unmistakable baritone hits all the right notes on Interpol’s self-titled fourth album. His gothic wails dissect with precision on top of reverbed guitars, stellar drums, layered piano and synths. The moody atmospherics of Interpol were recorded prior to Carlos D leaving the band and his signature bass lines, which remain among the most intriguing in modern rock, are among the record’s many high points. Interpol stands apart from the band’s previous releases by way of sonic experimentation while maintaining the brilliant melody and verve that has garnered them such a fervent following over the past decade. Those disappointed with the stylistic departure of 2007’s Our Love To Admire will be pleased with the direction taken on the new record thanks in part to the wizardry of mixer Alan Moulder. Piano-laced tracks like “Memory Serves” and “Summer Well” contain a fullness of sound worthy of both introspection and radio play.

Interpol “Barricade” (MP3)

Interpol has let fly the second single off this upcoming self-titled album. And the best thing we can say about is like previous song “Lights” this is the classic Interpol we’ve always loved. Perhaps that what makes all the band’s recent line-up and tour changes the more unnerving. We hate to see a band stumble right when hitting a musical stride. Good luck Interpol.
