Diplo ft. Douster :: “On” (Video & MP3)

With Detroit purist techno still ringing in our ears from Movement, we weren’t really expecting to be feeling Diplo’s Philly-via-LA hipster steez with French cohort Douster. But “On’s” slowmotion groove and dizzying John Lennon sample fits right in to the sort of smart-yet-funky dance music that is all we want to listen to right now.

The Bird Peterson Holiday Spectacular (MP3)

You know I can not stand holiday music — it always sounds like someone is cutting my ears apart with overly sweet, almost artificial good time feelings. Maybe for someone as dark and cynical as me, that music just doesn’t fly. Well it seems like Bird Peterson challenged all of us and made this extraordinary holiday mixtape which is so friggin’ fresh, I think I might play it in July. Jazz it up holiday grinch, it seems like even Bird Peterson revived the holiday spirit in me. Download the tape via Mad Decent.

URB Presents: Maluca (Video)

With all the genre-bending, crossover collaborations and international imports in recent music, it’s getting harder and harder to describe what you’re actually listening to. Unfortunately (for those who like to put things in a box), Maluca isn’t making that any easier. A bronx-born firecracker raised by Dominican parents, Maluca’s sound dances somewhere between tropical punk and a latina pop-rap hybrid— basically, you’re going to have to listen for yourself. With a Mad Decent release on her belt, an opening tour slot for Robyn, and an album on the way, the latin loca they call Maluca is a crazy train running full speed ahead, and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. I got a chance to catch up with Maluca at her Terminal 5  performance with Robyn in New York. Check it out….

Diplo Doc :: “In LA I See The Messiest People” (Video)

By now, you’ve probably seen Diplo$ellout ! !” in his commercial for Blackberry, which has got to be making someone at RIM HQ pretty happy. In this unbranded clip—shot mainly at the Mad Decent Block Party in Philadelphia this summer—Wesly ditches the business suit for a black tanktop and gets hella real on Los Angeles, anthropological purism, Mad Decent, and life in general. Great portrait of a still interesting artist.
