Here’s an ’08 flashback and some maybe semi-new thoughts on the New York Times story. This particular show found her on the verge of deportation and about to announce a pregnancy, which makes a very nice visual metaphor out of the smiley beach ball she carried against her belly, as the lights flood through, but I digress…Hearing her sing the words “you got the people? you got the power!” reminded me of hearing Patti Smith just a few years earlier singing “People Have the Power” in this same tent
Here’s a little secret, the only people who get off on a little harmless star vs. media controversy more than the star is the media. Any writer who spends their life heaping attention onto others has got to love it when a little media juice splashes on to them.
