The sonic constructs that exist between the minds of Hiawatha (Egyptrixx’s David Psutka and Thrush Hermit’s Ian McGettigan) are a murky and psychotropic, like a black stream that starts to evaporate upon human contact. It’s that kind of vibe that surrounds their debut LP, Language with an aura that’s insatiably relevant to the change of seasons and the fast-approaching nights of winter. We here at URB couldn’t think of a better way to let people into their music via our Surroundings feature, where we get an inside look into the spaces and places of inspiration that brought together what came to be for the artists we spotlight. On this edition, we are taken through three primary cities in different countries, all exhibiting the process of what brought inspiration to the sounds of Hiawatha. Check out what David (Egyptrixx) had to say, post-jump.
Welcome once again to SURROUNDINGS; an URB feature that highlights the influential environments of artists and visualizes them to their fellow listeners. The feature is a way to step into the world of one’s daily life, bringing a focus on the routines and rounds that artists and/or groups go through just to either lay down a track, prepare for a live show, or just mellow out. This time around, we have the group of LV showing us about in London town. Their latest LP, Sebenza (out now on Hyperdub) has been lauded by critics and fans alike for its unconventional parlaying of melding UK rhythms with South African influences, whilst remaining true to the Hyperdub sonic strain of producing weirdly vivid dancefloor vibes. Within their edition of SURROUNDINGS, the group touches upon their studio, their favorite sandwich joint and some well-known London venues that you might have heard of. Check out the feature, as well as a track from Sebenza after the jump.
