M.I.A. Flips Off America During Superbowl Half-Time Show (Video)

A finger isn’t a nipple and M.I.A. certainly isn’t Janet Jackson, but that’s the main (non-)controversy coming out of last night’s Superbowl Halftime show. While performing with Madonna and Nicki Minaj, the UK singer made the artistic decision to give the camera (and about 100,000,000 people) the middle finger. Why? “Adrenalin” is being named as the culprit, according to M.I.A.’s camp.

Watch the performance after the jump.

As a part of this year’s Best of 2011 survey, we asked voters to tell us what they thought made 2011 special when it comes to music. And as we expected, URB readers told us what’s up. Some of you were disappointed, but most stayed positive about the past 12 months and are enthusiastic about the year to come. As one of you so aptly put, “I want the music of 2011 in my head for at least the month of January 2012.”

With only a few hours left in the year, we decided to share some of the best comments with you. Thanks for an awesome 2011 and looking forward to 2012! Have fun tonight and stay safe. …MORE

Five Things I Learned (Or Remembered) Watching ‘Electro Wars’

Tonight’s IHeartComix screening of The Electro Wars at LA’s retro-fabulous Vista Theater brought back a whole lot of memories from the salad days of 2007-2008, when it seemed the fierce and fuzzy club music known as electro was taking over the world. But it wasn’t all reflection and nostalgia. Here’s a few things we learned (or remembered) from watching the film.

Ultra Music Fest has announced the third and final phase of their line-up, adding artist such as LMFAO, Afrojack, Josh Wink and Hybrid to their ginormous line-up. The event promoters have also announced the addition of four new arenas to the festival grounds: the UMF Ibiza Tent presented by Space Ibiza, the UMF Brasil Tent presented by We Love Brasil & Green Valley, the Root Society Dome and the Heineken Dome Experience. The UMF Ibiza Tent is the result of a new partnership between UMF Ibiza and Club Space Ibiza, bringing the Space Ibiza party to Miami. The party is set to continue throughout the summer as UMF travels to Ibiza to host the Space Ibiza Opening, Anniversary and Closing Parties.

Another addition to UMF 12 is artist/composer Christopher Janney’s installation Sonic Forest which provides an interactive, aural and visual component that will entice festival goers into a unique environment. Triggered by both public interaction and electronic instruments, Sonic Forrest is composed of 16 eight-foot tall aluminum poles that contain audio speakers, lights and photo-electric cells. As people move closely by these “electronic trees,” they trigger both melodic and environmental sounds, in a sense playing the forest.” When no one is moving in the space, the piece generates a seriesof preprogrammed patterns. During various parts of the installation, independentdrummers join the environment, turning the Forest into a dance festival unto itself. Overthe past five years, Sonic Forest has been featured at Bonnaroo, All Points West andCoachella in the US, as well as the Download Festival, Hyde Park Calling, Wireless andGlastonbury Festivals in the U.K., the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands and the Zaraga World’s Fair in Zaragoza, Spain.

Tickets for the world’s leading two-day electronic and alternative music experience are available now exclusively through http://www.ultramusicfestival.com.
