Creating a complete and engaging live musical experience is a tough feat. Having only about forty minutes of material to draw from greatly complicates the situation. “Would it be wrong?” Not for Broken Bells. For Broken Bells, also known as Brian Burton (typically known by his alias Danger Mouse) and James Mercer (lead singer of The Shins), this was effortless. Broken Bells have built upon their musical efforts on their self-titled Broken Bells at the Troubadour in Los Angeles this past Sunday 3/14 with a lively, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable performance. This is the acoustic version of the cut from the band’s 2008 release Censored Colors. American Ghetto in stores now. After the jump, I’ve got some footage shot live at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY last summer.
Tecca Nina speaks to HHO about his experience at the 2009 Paid Dues festival, as well as what he’s looking forward to about this year’s event. I have to say, the energy during his performance last year was absolutely insane. You will never find an artist more dedicated to their fans than Tech N9ne. I remember leaving right after Atmosphere’s closing performance and peeping the fact that Tech’s booth was the only one still open. There was a huge line of people waiting to get autographs. He stayed and signed them all. That’s love.
As a bonus, after the jump I’ve got a few videos that I took of the 2009 Paid Dues performances (including Tech’s).
Via my spot.

Live at Reading wound up being one of the better releases from last year. Too bad it was recorded in ‘92 and really has almost nothing to do with what’s going on musically today. Kurt and company still rule.
