Premiere: Keyboard Kid – BasedExorcism (URB Exclusive)

Keyboard Kid, one of modern hiphop’s forerunning producers, is finally letting the spotlight shine on himself with his first ‘official’ release after producing a huge number of self-released beat tapes and remixes (as well as contributing to URB’s own Burnin Up mix series), while also being Lil B’s main producer throughout his rise to the very top – the man knows how to stay busy.

Keyboard Kid 206 – BasedExorcism by Donky Pitch

The 5-track Transition EP, which is due out in early May on Donky Pitch, shows a producer who’s equally as strong without a vocalist to hide behind. Today we’re proud to premiere one of the strongest tracks …

BURNIN’ UP: Keyboard Kid Exclusive Mix (MP3)

Based in the place.

Oh hell yes. Our BURNIN’ UP feature this time around comes from the burgeoning BASED producer, Keyboard Kid. You may have noticed him releasing beat-tape downloads this year like a beast (The Mind Is So Complex When You’re Based is one of his best releases), and you also might have seen his name attached to a bunch of tunes that have a certain rapper that has risen to the stratosphere of internet fame. Yes, as one of Lil B’s production mainstays, Keyboard Kid has maintained a strong sense of spacial symbolism for B’s intensive hip-hop therapy sessions, but has also found ways to create that stand out on their own, similar to another producer protege, Clams Casino. Recently, Keyboard Kid has found ways to include new influences and inspirations into his productions, perhaps dipping his sounds into the territory of producers like URB favorite Sinjin Hawke, whilst taking a liking to the sounds of fresh WARP staples Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. Whatever one might hear, what’s instantly understandable about Keyboard Kid’s mix for BURNIN’ UP is the passion that’s spread across the duration of it. It’s fire, but it’s fire from the heart. Check out the link to the mix after the jump.

Sole Drops “I Think I’m Ben Bernanke” + New Mixtape (Video & MP3)

As the Occupy Wall Street movement continues to stretch its tendrils across the nation, anti-establishment emcee Sole has unleashed a timely video and mixtape to further document the world on fire. In “I Think I’m Ben Bernanke,” Sole portrays the head of the Federal Reserve in the not-so-distant future as a homeless drunk aimlessly wandering the streets. The track is taken from Dispatches From The American Fall, a 23 track mixtape chronicling a decade worth of Sole’s scathing diatribes on the economy and inevitable collapse of the empire. The mixtape, which features collaborations with Solillaquists of Sound, Lil B, Astronautalis, B. Dolan, Mac Lethal and Jared Paul, is available for free download here with an option to donate via bandcamp.

Lil B – I’m Gay (I’m Happy) (Review)

Lil B

I'm Gay (I'm Happy)

Released by Amalgam Digital

Before anything else, let us answer the question that is on everybody's mind: no. No, this is not the worst thing you will ever hear. In fact, it is far from it. Lil B has been one of the most loved and hated figures in hip-hop for a couple of years now (due to such songs as "Pretty Bitch" coupled with a seemingly eternal endorsement of "swag") and it seemed like with every new release, the bar was being set lower and lower. Sorry world, we have been ...

Sole Premieres “Hustle Hard” Video + Nuclear Winter 2 Mixtape Download (Video & MP3)

“Hustle Hard” is the latest chapter in Sole’s Woody Guthrie-like détournement of the modern mainstream. This blistering track comes from the rap-as-journalism project Nuclear Winter 2 and features the anticon expat alongside Fake Four labelmates Bleubird and K-the-I??? ripping apart Ace Hood’s hit with their own unique brand of anarchy. Though the three emcees never go airborne over a sand dune in the cart a la Johnny Knoxville, they do get in a good round of Modelo tall can-fueled golf while bringing a fresh, challenging perspective to the original song. It’s surprising how quickly this beat transforms K-The-I??? from space rap weirdo to the long lost cousin of Rick Ross. His new instrumental album Synesthesia, which dropped this week, is streaming over at Soundcloud. Bleubird, who has turned life into one nonstop tour thanks to the Freeebird van, also has a new record coming out later this year.
