Grieves and I went to Perkins to grab some late night/early morning food. The cab driver that dropped us off at our hotel was there eating by himself at 4 in the morning. Antibalas Return to Brooklyn

In New York, Antibalas have long been one of the leaders in the funk/afro-beat scene and each album (Security being their fourth) seems to increase their exposure and acclaim to a wider audience. Using legendary afro-beat inventor Fela Kuti as a starting point, the orchestra-sized band excels in long, improvisational jams that's equal parts African polyrhythms and horn-driven dirty funk.

When the band took the stage to a sold-out Warsaw in Brooklyn, NY, last Saturday night, the outfit of choice varied from 60s classic suit to war paint, exemplifying both the funk and afro-beat sides of the group. For two hours non-stop, the group used their studio recordings as a jumping off point to explore their more improvisational side.
