Interview :: Laurent Garnier L.B.S.

Several years ago, when speaking to Ed Banger records honcho Busy P, I asked the frenchman who he thought was the greatest French DJ of all time. “Laurent Garnier,” he answered without the slightest hesitation. Of course, there could be no other answer. With over 20 years of experience both behind the decks and performing live, Garnier has moved multiple generations of techno fans with his exceptionally long DJ sets and classic tracks such as “Crispy Bacon,” “Acid Eiffel” and “The Man With The Red Face.” And he’s spent the past decade performing his own music live with accomplished jazz musicians, proving himself to be a stellar festival act as well as nightclub staple. …MORE

Deadmau5, Guetta, Tiesto To Headline Ultra Music Fest

Ultra Music Festival has announced the initial batch of performers for their annual dance music bachannal in Miami, including easily the three biggest names in dance music—Deadmau5, David Guetta, Tiësto—to headline the event’s first three-day party. Also on the bill are global dance faves The Chemical Brothers, Benny Benassi and Sander Kleinenberg (performing an unusual live set). But beyond these mainstream mainstays, the bill is packed with popular American electro icons (MSTRKRFT, Steve Aoki, Wolfgang Gartner), crossover indie dance stars (Chromeo, !!!, Empire of the Sun, Cut Copy, Klaxons, CSS, Crystal Castles), European techno legends (Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, Gui Boratto) and dozens of other top acts from Afrojack to, er, Afrobeta. …MORE

Christian Prommer – Drumlesson Zwei (Review)

Christian Prommer

Drumlesson Zwei

Released by !K7

Christian Prommer presents us his second chapter of Drumlesson and he still draws his influences from Detroit techno, but also moves toward classic European electronic music this time around. His organic cover versions are less heavy on straight jazz, and have more of a prog rock and fusion edge surrounded by avant-garde arrangements. He gets a little more psychedelic and adds some kraut rock flavor, inspired by the plentiful German acts from the '70s and '80s. The selections are broad, from Carl Craig to Laurent Garnier, Dennis Ferrer, Jerome Sydenham and Jean-Michel Jarre. He produced everything alongside Peter Kruder and a handful of studio musicians. He was also more directly involved in playing drums, piano and percussion. After the recording sessions, he worked on each track in his studio, switching roles from live player to electronic producer.
