What’s Your Fave? Chemical Brothers, Plastikman, Deep Dish Top LA Weekly’s EDM For Beginners Album Guide

In case you’ve been living under a very very large and soundproof rock, odds are you know that Electronic Dance Music (EDM) has taken America by storm over the past year. Particularly in Los Angeles—the spiritual home of Electric Daisy Carnival—dance music events are drawing numbers like never before, which means a whole lot of new fans getting their rave on, most without a clear knowledge of where the heck this music came from before God put Skrillex on this earth.

To help, LA Weekly has put together a list of seminal EDM albums (from before the term EDM existed) to help folks learn what this music is really all about. The list covers everything from the ’90s Detroit sound concocted by Plastikman (aka Richie Hawtin) and the Chemical Brothers crossover smashto Deep Dish‘s superstar DJ peak on Global Underground and the unexpected inclusion of German house maestro Ian Pooley‘s understated and overlooked Since Then.

Kutmah Presents Worldwide Family Vol. 2 Interview (Video)

The second edition to Brownswood’s Worldwide Family compilation showcases tracks compiled by Kutmah, featuring music from Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Samiyam, fLako, Gaby Hernandez, Mono/Poly, Dibia$e, and many others. Kutmah was an integral part of the Los Angeles music community, but was deported back to the UK by Homeland Security. Jeff Weiss for the LA Weekly recently spoke to Kutmah about life after the US which you can check out here:
