“Art Rudeboy” Momus' Retro Necro post seems a little redundant in terms of rock'n'roll, but transposed to “contemporary” genres like dance music & hip-hop, the sad truth is impossible to ignore. Is music already dead?
As many smarter people than I have pointed out, temporality is a thing of the past. And it's not the fault of CDs or MP3s or archiving records, either. What happened to rock also happened to jazz and blues and 'ardcore and every other genre rife with know-it-all archivists and would-be historians.
I mean, Jazz does live on in some sort of zombified state, just like drum'n'bass and backpacker hip-hop, doesn't it?
