RIP ROC RAIDA :: WORLD’S BEST TURNTABLIST

Master turntablist DJ Roc Raida (B. Anthony Williams) passed away today. Part of the original DJ collective and turntablist group the X-ecutioners, (formerly known as X-Men), Raida’s vinyl exploits quickly earned him a reputation as one of the best DJs in the world. He captured the DMC World DJ Championship in 1995 with his superb beat-juggling, seamless mixing, and flawless, ambidextrous execution. He was so talented, he could literally spin with his arms behind his back. Not only a master of the turntables, Raida was also an accomplished martial artist.

Perry Farrell interview

Perry Farrell, the ‘godfather’ of alt-rock, might soon have a new moniker to honor his strides in…electronic music? Yes, Farrell’s still a part of Satellite Party and Jane’s Addiction, but he’s also integrated a sizeable DJ area at Lollapalooza, performed live with Paul Van Dyk and Moby, played at Cochella under DJ Peretz and has a live electro act with wife Etty Farrell. Blu – NoSleepForADay EP (MP3)

Blu might have a major label deal, but dude still wants to just make music. And for that very reason, he released the NoSleepForADay EP last week. Unfortunately, the fileshare sever that hosted the download crapped out…It’s back, though. So no need for worrying.

It’s surprising, but this all instrumental effort is seamless and pretty damned funky – in a futuristic kinda way – for a guy renown for his emcee skills. Cop it well.
