Unreleased He Say She Say (MP3)

Those who know me well know that He Say She Say has been one of my favorite bands since my  high school (which only ended last year…but nevertheless). Comprised of super-producer/”connoisseur of connoisseurs” Million Dollar Mano, who has worked on tracks for Kanye West, M.I.A., and many more, and singer/songwriter Drea, whose punk-soul inflections help create one of my favorite voices in music (plus she is one of the nicest people I know, which doesn’t hurt). On this previously unreleased track, “Without Me,” Drea’s raspy coo floats over Mano’s elegant keyboards as she sings about a unreciprocated relationship that she just can’t let go. …MORE

Kanye West’s “Runaway” (Review) (Video)

While the “critics” have been “lauding” the “visionary” effort by Kanye West in his directorial debut film that serves as an accompaniment to his upcoming new record, Runaway, the film, when treated as either a short or an extended music video—leaves much to be desired.  Being a decidedly arthouse film, Kanye West takes poetic license and shows us some of the twisted images coming from the mind of a self-named genius, a creative polymath capable of combining disparate elements like those exemplified by the cunning of a Picasso, the deconstruction of a Derrida, the creativity of a Warhol, or the glam avant-garde of David Bowie. Interview: Big Sean (Video)

From working at a radio station to being played on one, Big Sean’s rise to relevance has been a combination of impressive skill and being in the right place at the right time. Sean got his start by rapping for Kanye West while the G.O.O.D. music CEO was on a radio tour. The rapper was so impressed with the Detroit native that by the time he was ready to go to college, Ye was ready to offer him a deal. And the rest is history in the making. I sat down with the midwesterner/lyricist at the “Only The Brave” Diesel Event, held at New York’s prestigious Gotham Hall, and got the scoop on all things Sean.[videoembed id='

Asher Roth – Seared Foie Gras With Quince & Cranberry (Mixtape) (MP3)

Talib Kweli, Pac Div, Blu and Truck North fire up new mixtape

The last time Asher Roth dropped a mixtape, he was a little known MC with a bit of an Eminem inflection that got everyone in the URB offices asking “who is this?” as we played the joint over and over. Now Mr. Roth is a white-rapping, terrorist thwarting superhero who has evidently developed a taste for the finer culinary treats. Seared Foie Gras With Quince & Cranberry features drops from Talib Kweli, Pac Div, Blu and Truck North, and beats from all the top chefs—Pharrell, Dilla, Kanye, 9th Wonder…

Download: Asher Roth – Seared Foie Gras With Quince & Cranberry (Mixtape)

One word of warning Asher—Foie Gras is really fatty for a rapper who likes to take his shirt off.
