Kanye West is pop culture’s ultimate villian these days, but he is hardly the first to challenge the sense and sensibility of mainstream culture. The news today that the album artwork for his upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, has been “banned” just makes him the latest in a long line of artists who album art pushed the limits. …MORE
I’m a very big fan of superstar musicians taking not so mainstream creators and taking them to the highest level of stardom. Kanye previously has collaborated with Takashi Murakami, which I suspect he fell in love with after Murakami had done all that work for Louis Vuitton. If anything in times like these where the arts and humanities are being cut in funding, I am giving Kanye West a high five for showing how important both fields are. Kanye West tweeted the banned album cover for his upcoming album. The cover already looked censored to me, and looked similar to the New Pornographers Mass Romantic cover. You know, even if this is banned-George Condo can create something just as beautiful (that is if he did make that cover), check out some of his work below. …MORE
Before our conversation, I listened to the new album, watched the video for DoomTree’s “Drumsticks” a million times. I’ll have to wait a month or two till he comes to play West Hollywood to shout it at him at a show. At at 28, he’s already logged a considerable amount of time in the studio, and four hundred plus some odd tracks which is definitely a professional average. Spin has even called him a child prodigy, various mainstream media corporate outlets bowed at his feet as well in previous write-ups. He was down for the exchange, and I was unbelievably ill. It was decided via text message would be mutually beneficial way to proceed.
Have you been keeping up with all the SS ’11 shows? I could not handle all that ’70′s stuff going on in NYC, even if critics were ‘in awe’. Zac Posen showing in Paris garnered such a low response rate but I think he’s right in saying maybe NY doesn’t get him. I feel like even if his company isn’t as profitable today he can make a killing becoming a household name like Michael Kors. Zac could do so much with all that personality and clothes that women love. Love you Prada, not so much Burberry this season. It’s like we’re all not putting our thinking caps on this season just randomly recycling trends that haven’t even died out at Forever 21. Oh yeah, Kanye’s new song has to do with the fashion world. Throwing out model names and how …
Here at URB we may seem to have gone a bit overboard on the Kanye posts but that’s because we do believe he is a talented individual. Despite those G.O.O.D Friday songs we always cover (which I all but like) I’m glad I can finally get down to something that I like! With a reported album release on November 22, if the songs are anything like this collaboration I will be more than happy. This song reminds me of the SS ’11 Prada collection. I just want to be wearing something bright just dancing, just raising my hands towards the sky with drummers circling around me. Now this Bon Iver + Kanye collab sounds way better than “Monster” and there’s even some Gil-Scott Heron. Thanks Kanye, I knew you were just teasing me with …
